Benjen joined the watch because he had no status. He was the 3rd born son in a great house. 3rd born gets nothing. Their oldest brother got killed. And Ned became Lord Stark. Lots of Starks had been members of the Night's Watch, so Benjen figured why not. I can carry on the family tradition and Ned will carry on the family name.

When this series is all said and done, I hope Jon says fukk it, I'm Ned Stark's son. I never fukked with the Targaryens and I grew up a STARK
