So "real" necessitates the murder of more black folks. Art Barr and a lot of yall are some of the most fickle-minded I've ever encountered? Real is wanting to squeeze that trigger on another brother and deciding that both of yall are worth more than someone getting bodied? All of us have done terrible things to other brothers and sisters. Some of us have done time for that dirt. That's real? Fukk real if real means more black folks dying. Black folks have been extremely good at killing other black folks since long before Hip Hop. White folks got your heart if you hyping young brothers killing young brothers. Gotdamn, yall some dummies. Sucking white dyck when you think you keeping it real. Shameful.

Powerful post.
This is basically my thought process. We are doing the work for them. Our minds have been so poisoned that we're more concerned with realness than we are about simply doing better for ourselves. If this is being real, then I never want to be real.
I mean, I see the original threadstarter's point--people complain about rappers not doing what they rap about. However, it doesn't mean they got to rap about murder and crime and actually do it. It's more that sometimes we want to hear these cats who aren't real gangsters rap about their real life shyt, what's on their mind, and how they live, rather than profit off a fantasy that is reinforcing the negative behaviours rampant amongst youth in poor black communities.
And I ain't even mad at Chief Keef and his crew for the music they create because it reflects their reality. I'm upset that they recognize how fukked up it is but feel so trapped and hopeless that they carry on with it anyway--but I also understand that they may not see and may not have any other outlet. And I'm mad that people respect their willingness to be "bout that life" rather than respecting the rawness of their struggle portrayed in their music. When I watch these kids, I see a bunch of lost lil cats who would've benefitted from some love, a decent environment, and some more support--I see some lil kids crying out for help, yet being so far gone that even if the help did come they'd push it to the side. The only thing respectable about these kids is that their music reflects their reality. But, I think what a lot of people like about their music isn't that it's authentic, but that it's what we see as "keepin' it real,"...real ignorant. Keeping it real to us isn't about being authentic, it's about engaging in and celebrating destructive behaviours...and that's what upsets me about this whole thing.
