Another reason why there is no upside to America joining this. It's a regional problem (that COULD grow into a bigger problem.) but it's a guarantee if America joins the fight.
It was funny that report regarding Trump and Putin having a talk about this last week.

On some “What do you want to do about these guys? At it again…”

I think at this point the Super Powers realize there are just bigger fish to fry.

IAEA warns of possible contamination at Iran nuclear site

The head of the UN nuclear watchdog says there’s a possibility of both radiological and chemical contamination within Iran’s main nuclear enrichment facility in Natanz after Israeli air strikes.
Rafael Grossi said the main concern is the chemical toxicity of a gas called uranium hexafluoride, which is the result of fluorine mixed with the uranium during enrichment. It is volatile, will quickly corrode, can burn the skin and is especially deadly if inhaled.
Without gathering information at the site, the International Atomic Energy Agency “cannot accurately assess the radiological conditions and potential impacts on the population and the environment and cannot provide the necessary assistance”, Grossi said.
UN inspectors will remain in Iran and inspect the nuclear facilities “as soon as safety conditions allow”, he said.

Speculation over a possible Israeli attack on Iranian media

Reporting from Amman, Jordan
Al Jazeera is reporting from Jordan because it has been banned from Israel and the occupied West Bank.
Israel’s defence minister has been quoted as saying in the last few minutes that Iran’s propaganda and incitement mouthpiece is on its way out.
That cryptic message has prompted a lot of speculation in Israeli media about the possibility of an attack on media organisations in Tehran.
Meanwhile, some of the Israeli sites hit by Iranian missiles overnight were called sensitive, which is code for areas that the military will not disclose or fully disclose the nature and the location of.
Haifa, a very strategic city, has been repeatedly targeted by Iranian missiles. This is where Israel stores its petrochemicals and where a part of the power grid is. The grid has been partially damaged, and repair crews are working to restore electricity.
It is also where the gas and some other pipelines are.

US senator says he wants Congress to OK any military force against Iran

Senator Tim Kaine, a Democrat and member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, is filing a resolution to require that Congress authorise a declaration of war or any specific use of military force against Iran.
“It is not in our national security interest to get into a war with Iran unless that war is absolutely necessary to defend the United States. I am deeply concerned that the recent escalation of hostilities between Israel and Iran could quickly pull the United States into another endless conflict,” Kaine said.
The resolution would require any hostilities with Iran to be explicitly authorised by a declaration of war or specific authorisation for use of military force but would not prevent the US from defending itself from imminent attack.
Congress passed a similar resolution in 2020 during Trump’s first presidential term.

Markets are surging, people are numb to conflict at this point with all the ridiculous news the last 3 years starting with Ukraine vs Russia then the Oct. 7 attacks with the follow-up genocide.

This was as much a deal as India vs Pakistan globally. Tel Aviv got lit up, Iran going for a nuke and people don’t even care anymore.

Like said, it’ll matter if they shut off the trade route, but with the worldwide move to electrical, solar and batteries this isn’t the 2000’s anymore. Despite this whole “coal and oil” bs, Elon still said solar is the future, Trump still wants TSM to build a plant in Arizona, etc. The Middle East don’t have the chips (no pun intended) they once had.

Trump has yet to sign off on draft G7 statement calling on Israel and Iran to de-escalate

From CNN's Kevin Liptak in Calgary, Alberta
President Donald Trump has yet to sign off on a draft statement from the G7 meeting in Canada calling on Iran and Israel to de-escalate the conflict, according to officials familiar with the matter.

The statement also says Israel has a right to defend itself and states Iran can never have a nuclear weapon.

Hours before the summit of leading industrialized nations was set to convene, talks were still ongoing among the G7 delegations about language in the draft statement.

European officials, led by French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, were hoping to finalize a consensus among the leaders about the Middle East conflict.

Trump's G7 counterparts want clarity from him on a plan for Israel-Iran conflict

From CNN's Kevin Liptak in Calgary, Alberta
Donald Trump’s counterparts at the G7 plan to press the US president Monday on his strategy for dealing with Israel and Iran, officials from multiple delegations say, as the spiraling conflict shadows the first day of the summit

Organizers of the conference of leading industrialized nations hoped to release a joint statement calling for de-escalation, and discussions were underway among the nations on language as the summit was getting started in the Canadian Rockies, the officials said.

But there are some differences between the countries on how far to go in supporting Israel’s attacks on Iran.

Trump has remained supportive of Israel but is wary of any US offensive involvement. As he departed Washington for Alberta, he voiced confidence a deal could still be struck between the two countries to end the wave of missile attacks, and has said he believes nuclear negotiations with Iran will proceed.

But it’s far from clear to European officials what makes Trump confident that talks can continue, given the scale and scope of Israel’s attacks.

Given US influence over Israel, Trump’s fellow leaders want a clearer picture of how long the US intends to allow the conflict to continue, or whether Trump plans to apply pressure on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to de-escalate, the officials said.

Already, a difference has emerged between Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron over a role for Russian President Vladimir Putin to play in mediating the conflict.

After a phone call with Putin this weekend, Trump said Sunday he believed the Russian leader could act as a mediator. But Macron dismissed the idea during a visit to Greenland, saying Moscow’s own violation of the UN Charter in Ukraine disqualified it from acting as a peace broker.

Instead, Macron said the US has the best capacity to “bring everyone back to the table,” given Israeli dependence on American weapons.

Israel raids prison cells in crackdown on Palestinian inmates "celebrating" Iranian attacks

From CNN’s Eugenia Yosef and Christian Edwards
Israel said it had raided its prison cells after officials heard inmates making “expressions of joy” during a round of Iranian airstrikes against Israel.

“During the recent round of fighting, sounds of celebration were heard from criminal inmates who are residents of the Palestinian territories” in a prison in central Israel, the country’s prison service said Sunday.

It said the prison service’s elite “Metzada” unit had been called in to raid the cells and remove those involved.

In a video shared by the prison services, armed troops were seen storming a prison, pointing guns at inmates as they took cover on the floor of their cell. One of the men was seen lying face down as an officer bound his hands with a zip tie. Another man was blindfolded. Several men were then marched out of their cells, hunched over, with their arms tied behind their backs.

The prison service said the inmates were brought before a disciplinary tribunal and “subsequently disciplined,” without saying how.

It said the operation was carried out as part of National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir’s “zero tolerance” policy for expressing support for Israel’s adversaries.

During a visit to Petah Tikva, the central Israeli city where four people were killed in overnight Iranian attacks, Ben Gvir on Monday reiterated that authorities will crack down on anyone making “displays of joy” over Iran’s strikes on Israel.
“There is zero tolerance on this matter. The police have arrested quite a few people, and I back them — this is precisely my policy,” Ben Gvir said Monday.

The far-right minister referenced the “images” of prison guards entering cells with shotguns to “restore order” in the prisons.

“This is the policy I want,” he said. “Zero tolerance for displays of joy. Zero tolerance for those who support Iran. Support for Iran is support for terror, and anyone who supports terror must be detained.”

Israel has "no intention" to harm residents of Tehran, defense minister clarifies

From CNN’s Eugenia Yosef
Israel has no intention of harming the residents of Tehran, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said Monday, appearing to walk back comments he made hours earlier.

“I would like to clarify what should be obvious: There is no intention to physically harm the residents of Tehran, unlike what the murderous dictator (of Iran) is doing to the citizens of Israel,” Katz said on X.

Earlier, after Iranian strikes on Israel killed at least eight civilians, Katz had said that the residents of Tehran “will pay the price, and soon,” for the Iranian attacks on Israel.

Clarifying his comment, Katz said that Tehran residents “will have to pay the price of the dictatorship and evacuate their homes in areas where it will be necessary to strike regime targets and security infrastructure in Tehran.”

The Iranian capital has come under heavy bombardment since Israel launched its attack on the country overnight into Friday.

Israel says it has killed several high-level Iranian military commanders in those strikes, but Iranian civilians have also been caught in the assaults. At least 224 people have been killed in Iran since hostilities began Friday, the country’s health ministry said Sunday.
