Trump will not sign joint G7 statement calling for de-escalation between Israel and Iran

From CNN's Kevin Liptak in Calgary, Alberta
President Donald Trump does not intend to sign a joint statement calling for de-escalation between Israel and Iran drafted by G7 leaders in Canada, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The draft statement, which had been spearheaded by European officials at the summit of leading industrialized nations, says Israel has a right to defend itself and that Iran cannot obtain a nuclear weapon.

“Under the strong leadership of President Trump, the United States is back to leading the effort to restore peace around the world. President Trump will continue to work towards ensuring Iran cannot obtain a nuclear weapon,” a White House official said in response to a question about Trump’s plans when it came to the joint statement.

Trump’s decision not to sign on to the statement sets up an immediate divide with his counterparts before the summit even gets underway in the Canadian Rockies.

Trump says he believes Iran would "like to talk, but they should've done that before" conflict with Israel

From CNN’s DJ Judd in Calgary, Alberta
President Donald Trump told reporters at the G7 summit in Canada on Monday that he believes Iran wants to de-escalate its conflict with Israel, noting that Tehran was “not winning this war.”

“Yeah,” Trump told CNN, when asked whether he’s seen any signals or messages from intermediaries that Iran wishes to de-escalate the conflict. “They’d like to talk, but they should have done that before. I had 60 days, and they had 60 days, and on the 61st day, I said, ‘We don’t have a deal.’”

He continued: “They have to make a deal, and it’s painful for both parties, but I’d say Iran is not winning this war, and they should talk, and they should talk immediately, before it’s too late.”

The comments come after The Wall Street Journal reported that Iran has been “urgently signaling that it seeks an end to hostilities and resumption of talks over its nuclear programs, sending messages to Israel and the U.S. via Arab intermediaries.” The report cited Middle Eastern and European officials.

Trump issued a two-month ultimatum this spring for Iran to strike a nuclear deal or face consequences. On Friday — Day 61 — Israel launched unprecedented strikes on Iran, targeting its nuclear program and military leaders. The conflict is now entering its fourth day, with both sides exchanging blows.

Trump declined to say what, if anything, would prompt US military involvement in the conflict, telling reporters Monday, “I don’t want to talk about that.”

And he remained vague when pressed on what intelligence the US is providing Israel.

“We’ve always supported Israel. We have for a long period of time, strongly, and Israel is doing very well right now,” he said.

US Navy strike group heading toward Middle East "without delay," official says

From CNN's Haley Britzky
The USS Nimitz Carrier Strike Group is moving to the Middle East “without delay” amid the growing conflict between Israel and Iran, a US official told CNN.

The Nimitz was already intended to replace the other strike group in the Middle East, the USS Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group. The US official said the Nimitz is moving into the region “within the time window they were supposed to be” relieving the Vinson, but will now cancel a previously scheduled port call to expedite its arrival.

Just days ago, the Nimitz was conducting routine flight operations in the South China Sea, according to a Navy release.

The Vinson is roughly seven months into its deployment. It’s unclear how long the two strike groups will overlap in the Middle East before the Vinson returns home.

The US official added that some naval assets capable of defending against ballistic missiles already in the Middle East are expected to move into the eastern Mediterranean “in the coming days.”

Two US Navy ships intercepted missiles in defense of Israel at least twice over the weekend, the official said.

State TV chief slams ‘brutal’ Israeli attack

Peyman Jebelli, the head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), says the organisation’s headquarters was attacked because the Iranian “national media is precisely targeting the depth of the enemy’s media strategy”.
In a statement quoted by the semiofficial Mehr news agency, he said employees in the national media outlet “loudly declare” their determination to play their roles in the “hybrid war” initiated by Israel.
“There has been no disruption in our will to achieve a media victory over the front of disbelief,” Jebelli added.

Iran’s FM says phone call from Washington could ‘pave the way to diplomacy’

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “a war criminal” and said Israel’s PM is deliberately provoking war to block a diplomatic breakthrough between Iran and the US.
In a Telegram post, Araghchi said that Israel’s leadership is “hiding in Tel Aviv bunkers” and vowed that Iran’s armed forces will continue to retaliate “for as long as necessary to ensure that they no longer target our people”.
Araghchi said that if US President Donald Trump “truly believes in diplomacy” and wants to stop the war, then “a phone call from Washington is all it takes to silence Netanyahu”.
“That could pave the way for a return to diplomacy,” he said, adding that Iran didn’t start the war and does not seek further bloodshed, but will fight “with honour, to the last drop of blood” to defend its land and people.

The last one :ohhh:

Didn't forget you breh. So much news :sadcam:

DUBAI, June 16 (Reuters) - Iranian parliamentarians are preparing a bill that could push Tehran toward exiting the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, the foreign ministry said on Monday, while reiterating Tehran's official stance against developing nuclear weapons.
"In light of recent developments, we will take an appropriate decision. Government has to enforce parliament bills but such a proposal is just being prepared and we will coordinate in the later stages with parliament," the ministry's spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said, when asked at a press conference about Tehran potentially leaving the NPT.

The NPT, which Iran ratified in 1970, guarantees countries the right to pursue civilian nuclear power in return for requiring them to forego atomic weapons and cooperate with the U.N. nuclear watchdog, the IAEA.

Israel began bombing Iran last week, saying Tehran was on the verge of building a nuclear bomb. Iran has always said its nuclear programme is peaceful, although the IAEA declared last week that Tehran was in violation of its NPT obligations.
President Masoud Pezeshkian reiterated on Monday that nuclear weapons were against a religious edict by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iran's state media said that no decision on quitting the NPT had yet been made by parliament, while a parliamentarian said that the proposal was at the initial stages of the legal process.

Baghaei said that developments such as Israel's attack "naturally affect the strategic decisions of the state," noting that Israel's attack had followed the IAEA resolution, which he suggested was to blame.
"Those voting for the resolution prepared the ground for the attack," Baghaei said.
Israel, which never joined the NPT, is widely assumed by regional governments to possess nuclear weapons, although it does not confirm or deny this.
"The Zionist regime is the only possessor of weapons of mass destruction in the region," Baghaei said.

Israeli army confirms hitting Iranian state broadcaster

A military statement claims that the building has been used by Iran’s armed forces.
“This centre was used by the armed forces to advance military operations under civilian cover,” the statement claimed.
“The attack was carried out in a targeted manner to minimize harm to uninvolved people as much as possible,” it said.
