Iran’s first nuclear power plant went live only a little over 10 years ago. They are highly capable of creating a weapon at that point because running a nuclear power plant means holding uranium at 60% enrichment which takes years to do, in some cases decades for poorer countries to build. Many countries aren’t at that capability.

Taking that 60% enriched uranium from there to 90% which is weapons grade only takes weeks. Getting to 60% enrichment is the most difficult part because it’s literally 90% of the work and what most non-nuclear countries fall short in. The fact they’ve had 60% enrichment means with a snap of their fingers they can get a nuclear weapon from there. That was far from the case in the 90’s and 2000’s because they didn’t even have nuclear power.

So it’s not a theory or speculation at this point: they can absolutely make a nuclear weapon in a matter of weeks because they have a legit live nuclear power plant running. The hard part of being able to create a nuclear weapon has been over for them. It’s no longer theorycrafting. There are 9 countries with nuclear weapons but 22 other countries with live nuclear power plants/reactors and are capable of building a nuclear weapon, 15 of which with domestic enriching capabilities. Iran is one of them (a large part of Latin America can get it poppin if they really wanted to) when given time.

Only recently did Iran have way more nuclear material than they needed. Given the combative exchanges with Israel over the last year it’s a more valid time than any other in history for them to be paranoid.
