One killed in Israeli drone strike in southern Lebanon

Lebanon’s National News Agency has reported the strike, which killed a person riding a motorcycle in Baraachit.
Israel and Hezbollah reached a ceasefire agreement in November of last year, but Israel has continued near-daily strikes on Lebanon, including in the capital, Beirut.
Israel has accused Lebanese authorities of failing to properly oversee provisions of the agreement, a claim Lebanon’s leaders have rejected.

2 killed in strike on residential building in Qom, state media reports

From CNN’s Brad Lendon and Isaac Yee
A strike on a residential building in the central Iranian city of Qom killed two people and injured four others on Saturday, according to reports from state media.

The strike, which hit the building’s fourth floor, was reported shortly after the Israel Defense Forces said it had begun a new wave of attacks in Iran.

The holy city of Qom is close to Iran’s mysterious Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant.

One of those killed was a 16-year-old, according to a statement from Morteza Heydari, spokesman for the Qom Provincial Administration, made to Iranian media.

Video geolocated by CNN shows impact damage to a building in southwestern Qom. In the video a fire can be seen burning on the upper floors of a multistory building.

At the same time, semi-official Nour News reported air defenses were active over the capital Tehran, 130 kilometers (80 miles) to the north.

'A choice of two evils': Young anti-regime Iranians divided over conflict

Tara, 26, told the BBC that when Israel issues evacuation warnings ahead of strikes, authorities shut off internet access "so that people don't find out and the death toll rises".

Checkpoints and toll stations are also set up, she says, accusing authorities of "deliberately" creating traffic, which "encourages people to stay in targeted areas".

"Talking about patriotism, unity, and standing up to the enemy is absurd. The enemy has been killing us slowly for decades. The enemy is the Islamic Republic!"

The Israeli military has been issuing evacuation warnings via Telegram and X, which are banned in Iran. Coupled with limited internet access, this means it's difficult for Iranians to see the warnings.

Sima, 27, tells us she does not care about this anymore.

"I wish Israel would get the job done as soon as possible. I'm exhausted. Although I'm still not a fan of Israel or what it's doing, I hope they'd finish what they've started.

"Wishful thinking, I know. But I want them to rid us and the world of the threat of the IRGC [Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps], [Ayatollah Ali] Khamenei and ayatollahs as a whole."

Khamenei, Iran's supreme leader, is commander-in-chief of the armed forces, including the powerful IRGC, which is tasked with defending the Islamic system and overseeing Iran's ballistic missiles. The recent Israeli strikes have killed many senior IRGC figures, including its commander, Hossein Salami.

Some people we spoke to were even more forceful in their support for Israel's attacks.

Amir, 23, said he supported them "100%". Asked why, he said he believed no-one else was prepared to take on the regime.

"Not the UN, not Europe, not even us. We tried, remember? And they killed us in the streets. I'm joyful when the people who've crushed our lives finally taste fear. We deserve that much."

Amir is referencing the widespread protests in Iran following the death of Masha Amini. The 22-year-old died in police custody in 2022 after being arrested for allegedly violating rules requiring women to wear the headscarf.

Some opponents of the Islamic Republic are suspicious of Netanyahu's intentions, however.

"I participated in the protests [in 2022] because I had hope for a regime change then. I just don't see how the regime could be overthrown in this conflict without Iran itself being destroyed in the process," said Navid, a 25-year-old activist who was briefly arrested during the protests.

"Israel is killing ordinary people as well. At some point, people will start to take the side of the Islamic Republic," he added.

Darya, 26, said: "I think the fact that people are not coming out to protest is already a clear response" to Netanyahu's call.

"I wouldn't go even if Israel bombed my house. Netanyahu is hiding behind Iranian nationalist slogans and pretends he's helping Iranians reach freedom while he's targeted residential areas. It's going to take years just to rebuild the country."

Arezou, 22, said she did not know what to think.

"I hate the regime, and I hate what it's done to us. But when I see bombs falling, I think of my grandmother, my little cousin. And I've seen what Netanyahu did to Gaza - do you really think he cares about Iranians? This isn't about us, it's about [Israeli] politics," she said.

"I feel like I have to choose between two evils, and I can't. I just want my people safe. I want to breathe without fear."

Mina, 27, said: "I want this regime gone more than anything - but not like this. Not through more bombs, more death."

"Israel is not our saviour. When innocent people die, it's not a step toward freedom, it's another form of injustice. I don't want to trade one kind of terror for another. I'm against this regime and also against this war. We deserve a better way out than this."

Is it really that easy to hide two nuclear warheads for 33 years? :patrice:
And then not use them all this time when they could have? :patrice:
They really want Iran to have nukes :dahell:
In the chaos of the post-Soviet era it is plausible that they bought a couple in Kazakhstan.

'I was lying in bed... The ceiling fell in': At the scene of Israeli hospital hit by Iran strike

Alon Uzi was wandering around outside the hospital entrance with two bags of belongings.

He said he had been receiving treatment in the emergency department when the attack happened, and didn't have time to reach the shelter.

"I was lying in bed, and I heard a big boom," he told us. "And before I could do anything, there was an explosion and part of the ceiling fell and I was covered with white dust.

"There was no time to get out of bed. I was just getting ready and then I heard a whistling noise."

Inside the emergency reception area, the air carried the tang of chemicals mixed with dust. Patients were still being evacuated on stretchers from deep inside the building, as emergency teams passed through into the surgical wards that were hit.

Medical staff told local media that patients there had recently been moved to the hospital's emergency shelters underground. Seventy-one people have been injured, according to Israel's ministry of health.

Among the stream of ministers visiting the site today was Culture Minister Miki Zohar, from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud party.

"All the people need to know what we're facing – a regime that is trying to kill innocent people," he said. "When you're dealing with evil, this is a different war. Believe me, we won't stop until we win. We're going to reply and it's going to be very strong."

Mr Zohar was asked about Israel's history of bombing hospitals in Gaza – locations its army says are being used as military control centres by Hamas.

"We keep innocent people in Gaza safe as much as we can," he said. "We call them to evacuate before we bomb. This is the big difference between Iran and us."

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps release details of latest ‘combined’ attack on Israel

Iranian media outlet Tasnim has just published an announcement from the country’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) on the latest missile attack on Israel that took place a little earlier.
According to the IRGC statement, the attack was the 18th against Israeli targets and was focused on military sites and operational support centres in central Israel, including Ben Gurion international airport.
The attack involved Iran’s domestically designed Shahed-136 drones, which “continuously carried out missions in the skies” over the occupied territory, as well as solid- and liquid-fuelled Iranian missiles.
“The most advanced defence systems were unable to intercept them,” the IRGC said.
“Combined drone, missile operations will continue continuously and purposefully,” the IRGC said in the statement.

Iranian foreign minister arrives in Turkiye for Organization of Islamic Cooperation meeting

Abbas Araghchi has arrived in Ankara for the gathering, which is set to include more than 40 foreign ministers, according to the Young Journalists Club, a state media agency.
The meeting comes after Araghchi met with European counterparts in Geneva on Friday.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reportedly held two calls with US President Trump in the wake of Israel’s initial attack on Iran, in an apparent effort to de-escalate the conflict.
Speaking on Friday, Trump appeared to downplay the prospect of pressuring Israel to cease its military operations against Iran.

Does Iran have the infrastructure to house and maintain a nuclear bomb if they were lended one similarly to how Italy is in possession of nuclear weapons that they do not own? :jbhmm:
