Gulf Arab states come out in opposition to US involvement in the Israel-Iran conflict

From CNN's Dalia Abdelwahab
The Gulf Arab countries of Qatar, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia — all key Middle Eastern power players and United States allies — have released statements condemning US involvement in the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict.

• An Arabic-language post to X from the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned that “dangerous tensions experienced by the region will lead to catastrophic escalations on both the regional and international fronts.” The ministry urged all sides to “exercise wisdom and self-restraint,” and avoid further escalation that would impact people in a region already beset by conflict and humanitarian crises.

• The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged the international community to increase its efforts toward a “diplomatic solution that would guarantee an end to this crisis and lead to turning a new leaf toward achieving security and stability around the region,” in an Arabic-language post on X.

• The Kuwaiti foreign ministry singled out the United Nations Security Council in a call “to honor its responsibilities to maintain global peace and security.” Its statement called for an “immediate and complete halt of any and all forms of escalation, for a complete ceasefire of military activity, and for restraint of language and self-restraint.”

The United Nations Security Council called an emergency meeting Sunday to discuss the latest developments in the region.

@MENAUnleashed
🇮🇷🇮🇱 IRAN HAS SHUT DOWN ISRAEL’S SEA TRADE
Israel is abandoning its ports & acquiring an offshore port in Greece after Iran successfully imposed an indirect maritime blockade, as evidenced by Maersk's decision to suspend all vessel calls at Haifa. This unprecedented development marks the collapse of Israel’s Mediterranean trade infrastructure & reflects a strategic shift in national logistics. 🧵(1/7)

2/27
@MENAUnleashed
The cumulative effects of Iranian deterrence, elevated war-risk premiums, Turkish embargo enforcement, and cascading global carrier withdrawals have rendered Israeli ports commercially untenable. Israel is no longer attempting to absorb maritime disruptions but is instead pursuing extraterritorial port infrastructure as a new logistical doctrine. (2/7)

3/27
@MENAUnleashed
Within this context, the bid by Israel Shipyards Ltd to acquire a controlling stake in the Lavrion Port near Athens must be understood not as a conventional investment but as a national infrastructure relocation project. Lavrion, integrated into the EU's maritime network, offers Israel a secure offshore hub insulated from missile range and political volatility. (3/7)

4/27
@MENAUnleashed
The port’s operational capacity and regulatory stability make it uniquely suited to serve as a substitute for Haifa and Ashdod in the emerging logistics regime. This move reflects not an adaptation to crisis but a wholesale abandonment of domestic port sovereignty under conditions of strategic duress. (4/7)

5/27
@MENAUnleashed
The military implications are equally pronounced. Israel Shipyards, which constructs naval vessels including missile boats and fast patrol craft for the Israeli Navy, would obtain a dual-use platform capable of supporting military logistics. Lavrion could be rapidly configured as a rear-operational base for ship maintenance, resupply, and fleet staging. (5/7)

6/27
@MENAUnleashed
Its position within NATO-adjacent waters offers a protective legal and geopolitical buffer while preserving strategic autonomy. This transition marks the end of territorial centrality in Israel’s maritime architecture. Faced with layered economic coercion and asymmetric threat projection, Israel is reconstructing its logistical lifelines through foreign asset acquisition and offshore sovereignty. (6/7)

7/27
@MENAUnleashed
In doing so, it sets a precedent for small states under hybrid siege to externalise critical infrastructure and secure continuity of trade and defense operations beyond national borders. (7/7)

Top US diplomat at UN defends US strikes

From CNN’s Jennifer Hansler
The top US diplomat at the United Nations defended the US military strikes on Iran, saying, “the time finally came for the United States, in the defense of its ally and in the defense of our own citizens and interests, to act decisively.”

“For 40 years, the Iranian government has called for death to America and death to Israel and posed a constant menace to the peace and security of its neighbors, the United States, and the entire world,” acting US Ambassador Dorothy Shea said at an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council Sunday.

Shea warned that “Iran should not escalate.”

“To fulfill its core mission of maintaining international peace and security, this Council must call upon the Iranian regime to end its 47-year effort to eradicate the state of Israel, to terminate its drive for nuclear weapons, to stop targeting American citizens and interests, and to negotiate peace in good faith for the prosperity and security of the Iranian people and all other states in the region,” she said.

Pakistan’s UN envoy condemns US a day after Trump Nobel Peace Prize nomination

“Pakistan has condemned the US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities”, its ambassador to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, has told the UNSC.
“The sharp rise in tensions and violence as a result of the Israeli aggression and unlawful actions is profoundly disturbing, any further escalation risk catastrophic consequences for the region and beyond” he said.
“Pakistan stands in solidarity with the government and brotherly people of Iran during this challenging time”, Ahmad said.
These comments come just a day after Pakistan said it would recommend United States President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Strikes aimed at stopping nuclear threat from Iran, says US representative at UN

published at 20:48

The US's representative at the UN Security Council says the country's strikes on Iran were aimed to dismantle the country's nuclear enrichment capacity and stop the "nuclear threat" it poses.

Dorothy Shea says the US's mission was to "eliminate a longstanding but rapidly escalating source of global insecurity" adding: "Iran has long obfuscated its nuclear weapons programme and stonewalls good faith efforts in recent negotiations."

"Any Iranian attack, direct or indirect, against Americans or American bases will be met with devastating retaliation," she added.

She says the UN Security Council must call on the Iranian regime to end its "effort to eradicate the state of Israel, to terminate its drive for nuclear weapons, to stop targeting American citizens and interests, and to negotiated peace".

Iran has previously said its nuclear programme was entirely peaceful and that it had never sought to develop a nuclear weapon.
