Iran urges UN Security Council to act against Israel over nuclear facility strikes​

Iran has demanded immediate action from the United Nations Security Council following what it calls “Israeli regime’s deliberate attacks” on its nuclear facilities, warning that continued aggression threatens global security.

In a letter, published on Iran state-run IRNA news, and addressed to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the Security Council, Iran’s UN envoy Amir Saeid Iravani accused Israel of violating international law and cited “UNSC Resolution 487 (1981),” which condemned Israel’s strike on Iraq’s Osirak reactor in 1981.

“Israeli officials threatening to carry out further attacks against Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities are a serious and growing threat to international peace and security and require immediate action by the Security Council,” Iravani said in the letter.

US Senate majority leader won't rule out possibility of US military action in Iran​

Senate Majority Leader John Thune would not rule out the possibility of US military action in Iran during an interview on Fox News Monday afternoon, stating that he doesn’t want to “tie the president’s hands.”

“The US, which right now is largely in defensive posture, at some point, may be asked to take a more of an offensive tack there, but I think that’s — those are ultimately decisions the president and his team, and DoD would have to make,” Thune said, referring to the Department of Defense.
“But the end of the game, at the end of the day, Martha, this has to end with Iran giving up their nuclear program,” he told host Martha MacCallum.

The South Dakota Republican called on Iranians to continue negotiating with Trump. “The president is prepared to make a deal. And this can happen one of two ways, Martha, it can happen diplomatically, voluntarily, by Iran choosing to end its nuclear program. Or it can happen by force, which is what the Israelis are in the midst of right now, and one you avoid a lot of death and destruction,” he said.

Earlier in the Senate: Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia introduced a war powers resolution that would require explicit congressional approval of any US forces engaged in hostilities against Iran.

Iran says latest wave of attacks against Israel will continue until dawn​

The ninth wave of Iranian attacks against Israel has kicked off and will continue until dawn, Iranian media reported on Monday, citing a spokesperson for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

It’s currently nearly midnight in Israel.

US Senator Bernie Sanders says Netanyahu ‘started this war’​

Sanders blamed Netanyahu for triggering the latest escalation with Iran and warned against any US involvement in the conflict.
“Netanyahu started this war by attacking Iran,” Sanders said on X, adding that “he assassinated Ali Shamkhani, Iran’s lead nuclear negotiator, deliberately sabotaging US-Iran nuclear negotiations.”
Sanders, who has been a vocal critic of Israel’s ongoing deadly assault on Gaza, said “the US must not be dragged into another illegal Netanyahu war – either militarily or financially”.

IAEA warns Israel-Iran conflict threatens nuclear facilities, diplomacy​

The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, has warned that escalating hostilities between Israel and Iran pose grave dangers to diplomacy and nuclear safety and has urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint.
Speaking at an emergency session of the United Nations nuclear watchdog’s Board of Governors on Monday in Vienna, Director General Grossi stressed that the region is at a critical juncture.
“Military escalation threatens lives, increases the chance of a radiological release with serious consequences for people and the environment, and delays indispensable work towards a diplomatic solution for the long-term assurance that Iran does not acquire a nuclear weapon,” Grossi said.

More on Iranian Red Crescent workers killed​

As we’ve just reported, the Iranian Red Crescent Society said three of its rescuers were killed by an Israeli air strike in northwest Tehran.
