Iran running out of options as it can’t rely on Trump to restrain Israel

Charles Kupchan, a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, says he does not think US President Donald Trump will pressure Israel to pull back from strikes on Iran.
“On the contrary, I think in Trump’s mind Israel’s strikes against Iran are part of the coercive diplomacy that he sees as getting to an acceptable end game,” he told Al Jazeera from Washington, DC.
“This two-week [deadline announced by Trump] is an opportunity to show force – we hear they’re sending more aircraft, more naval vessels to the region – and to open the door to negotiations, both Iran-Europe and Iran with Witkoff, to see if we can’t get a diplomatic solution here.
“But I see no real prospect of Washington asking the Israelis to hold back. I think, if anything, they’re going to encourage them to keep up the pressure.”
He said Iran does not have a lot of good options as Israel has effective control of Iranian airspace and is largely defending effectively against Iranian strikes.
“I don’t think Iran really has the ability to say, ‘We’re not going to talk as long as we’re getting hit.’ I think in many respects the Iranian regime has its back up against the wall, militarily,” he said.
“The key question is: Is Iran going to blink? Is Iran going to use coercive pressure to try to make a deal before it faces even more military pressure, that is to say a potential American use of force?”

Yea, this "war" is not going very well for Israel or the United States.

Social Media has changed the game.

US-Israeli narrative against Iran not convincing

Marwan Bishara, Al Jazeera’s senior political analyst, says the US, Israel and some European countries “are trying to dictate what happens in the Middle East as if we live in the early part of the 20th century”.
Bishara said reality has been flipped on its head in many ways since Israel began its attacks against Iran a week ago.
He noted that Israel is a nuclear power that has attacked a country, Iran, which is a signatory to the UN’s non-proliferation treaty and had hundreds of nuclear inspections last year.
“It’s very sloppy, the way the West is making its case. I don’t think it’s convincing to anyone, including to the European and American publics,” Bishara said.

Israeli army chief warns of ‘prolonged’ war with Iran

Israel’s military chief Eyal Zamir said his country should be “ready for a prolonged campaign” against Iran, as the longtime foes exchanged fire for the eighth day.
“We have embarked on the most complex campaign in our history to remove a threat of such magnitude, against such an enemy. We must be ready for a prolonged campaign,” Zamir said in a video statement.
He added that “the campaign is not over. Although we have made significant achievements, difficult days still lie ahead.”

Iran will only meet US for talks if Israel stops striking it, officials told European counterparts

From CNN’s Matthew Chance and Benjamin Brown
Iran will only meet with the US for nuclear talks if Israel agrees to stop striking the country, Iranian officials told their European counterparts at a meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, CNN has learned.

According to a Western official with knowledge of the talks, the Iranian officials said they would not meet with a US delegation for direct talks while Israel is bombing their country.

Though the officials were told that the US does not necessarily have the authority to stop Israel’s military action, the European representatives said that they would pass the message on, the Western official told CNN.

In turn, the Iranian officials said they would ask their leadership if pausing Iran’s strikes on Israel would also be considered, the source added. If both those things were to happen — and the strikes from both Iran and Israel were paused — there could be direct talks with the Americans, the official said.

The US passed on a very direct message that Iran agreeing to no uranium enrichment would be an essential part of any direct talks, the official added.

Attempting to fight wars on three different fronts is not wise for the strongest militaries, let alone one that’s reliant on other countries.

The cries (also known as demands) for US to enter the conflict will become screams in another week or two, so expect AIPAC bought politicians on both sides to start calling for US intervention. Jeffries already did a soft rollout of the language they plan on using when they ask for boots on the ground.

There’s been a heated exchange at the United Nations Security Council between Iran and Israel as world powers meet to discuss the escalating military conflict.

While the UN secretary general warned that the world is racing towards crisis, and the permanent European powers on the council - the UK and France - called for urgent de-escalation, the tough exchange of words between Iran and Israel highlighted the entrenched nature of their positions.

The Iranian ambassador called the Israeli attack “unprovoked”; he insisted his country’s nuclear programme was peaceful and – accusing the US of complicity and the rest of the Security Council of failing to act - he said Iran would continue to defend itself until Israel’s military action stops.

The Israeli ambassador, in his following remarks, accused Iran of having a “genocidal agenda,” claiming that its ability to deploy nuclear weapons was approaching faster than anyone could imagine and, he said, Israel would not stop targeting its nuclear facilities until the threat had been “dismantled”.

China said Israel was in violation of international law, Russia said it had showed a “blatant disregard” for diplomacy. But the US, calling Iran the principal source of terror in the Middle East, said it continues to stand with Israel as an ally, and supports its actions.

Telegram is emerging as a vital source of information and news as Iran grapples with ongoing cyberattacks and mounting restrictions on internet access.
Despite being banned in Iran, the app remains hugely popular and many people inside the country use VPNs to circumvent the ban and access it.
With the country's major news websites and streaming platforms either offline or inaccessible from abroad, Telegram channels have become crucial for news dissemination.
The app is also one of the few ways for Iranians abroad to communicate with loved ones inside the country.
Official Telegram channels linked to state news agencies are continuing to post news reports and links to their websites – though the sites may not be accessible to foreign-based users.
We've previously reported on the difficulties Iranians face in following evacuation notices ahead of Israeli attacks.

Explosions rock several areas of Iran's Khuzestan province, semi-official media says

From CNN’s Catherine Nicholls
Israeli attacks caused explosions in several parts of the southwestern Iranian province of Khuzestan on Friday, according to Iran’s semi-official Mehr News Agency.

Three cities, Ahvaz, Mahshahr and Andimeshk, were targeted in the attacks, Mehr News Agency reported, though the attack on Mahshahr did not reach the city, instead causing an explosion in an area outside of it.

Residential houses were damaged in the Ahvaz attack, according to the agency. An empty shed may have been the target of the attack, it said.

US State Department "can't speculate" on whether Trump will push for Iran-Israel ceasefire talks

From CNN's Jennifer Hansler
US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said she “can’t speculate” on whether the Trump administration will press for a ceasefire between Iran and Israel to allow US-Iran nuclear talks to move forward.

“I’m not going to characterize what’s happening now, or the reaction by the president or the secretary of state to what those negotiations might be,” Bruce said at a news briefing Friday.

The Iranians have said that they will not return to talks with the United States until Israel stops its military strikes.

Bruce reiterated that US President Donald Trump “still holds out the hope for negotiations.” She also underscored that Iran and its proxies “should not target US interests or personnel, and if they do, the consequences will be dire.”

UN says 13-year-old boy hurt in attack on Gaza aid point has died

Abed al-Rahman had appeared in an earlier UNICEF video from his hospital bed after he was seriously injured when Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinian aid seekers in the Gaza Strip.
“Earlier this week, we were devastated to learn” that the 13-year-old had died of his injuries, the UN agency said in a post on X.
“Dehydration. Hunger. Indiscriminate attacks. Gaza’s children face the unthinkable every single day.”
