Israeli forces raid several Palestinian towns in occupied West Bank

The Israeli military has raided the town of Tubas, northeast of Nablus in the north of the West Bank, the Palestinian news agency Wafa is reporting.
Israeli soldiers raided several homes in the town, Wafa said. Separately, the Israeli military also carried out raids in several towns south of Jenin, also in the northern West Bank, including Arrabeh and Qabatiya.
At least two Palestinians were arrested during the raid in Qabatiya, Wafa reported.
Palestinians in the West Bank have experienced an intensified campaign of Israeli military and settler violence amid Israel’s war in Gaza. Thousands of people have been forcibly displaced from their homes.

As we reported earlier, Israeli forces opened fire on aid seekers near the Netzarim corridor in central Gaza, killing at least 22 people and injuring more.
Our Al Jazeera Arabic colleagues, citing a source at al-Awda Hospital in Deir el-Balah, now report that 23 people have been killed in that attack.
Al Jazeera sources in hospitals in the besieged enclave now report that a total of 34 people have been killed in Israeli attacks across Gaza in the hours since midnight local time (21:00 GMT).

Sahaaleh was convicted of crimes against chastity when she was 13 years old. Following a police raid, she was discovered alone in a car with a boy. She was jailed and given 100 lashes. While in prison, she was further allegedly tortured and raped by prison guards. She told her grandmother that she could only walk on all fours because of the pain.[3] In the following years, she was arrested twice more for crimes against chastity, and both convictions were punished by flogging and jail time.[4]

In May 2003, Sahaaleh was arrested at home and charged with adultery and immorality. Authorities presented a report which they claimed supported the charges against Sahaaleh, but the only signatures on the report were police officers and other local authorities.[1][4]

The judge presiding over the trial was Haji Rezai. After Rezai interrogated Sahaaleh, she confessed to being raped by Ali Darabi, a married 51-year-old ex-revolutionary guard turned taxi driver. Sahaaleh was raped repeatedly by Darabi over the previous three years.[5][6] When Sahaaleh realized that she was losing her case, she removed her hijab, an act seen as a severe contempt of the court, and argued that Darabi should be punished, not her. She removed her shoes and threw them at the judge.[7]Rezai sentenced Sahaaleh to death. Her lawyer appealed to Iran's Supreme Courtin Tehran, where the verdict was upheld due to Sahaaleh's confession and three prior convictions for similar offenses.[1][4]

According to the BBC, the documents presented to the Supreme Court of Appeal described her as 22 years old, but her birth certificate and death certificate stated that she was 16. A witness stated that "the judge just looked at [Sahaaleh's] body, because of the developed physique ... and declared her as 22", and her father alleges that "neither the judge nor even Sahaaleh's court appointed lawyer did anything to find out her true age".

She was publicly hanged from a crane in Neka on August 15, 2004

Marches of "wrath" and "victory" planned across Iran for Friday

From Laura Sharman
Iranians are being urged to take part in nationwide marches of “wrath” and divine “victory” on Friday, to demonstrate the nation’s anger at Israel’s strikes on it, according to Iranian media.

People throughout Iran are expected to band together in support of its military forces in an “outcry of the people’s rage” against Israel, according to a poster for the nationwide event shared by the semi-official Tasnim news agency.

The marches will take place after Friday prayers, a key weekly religious event for Muslims that often draws large crowds in Iran, especially during periods of heightened tension, and which Iran’s Islamic regime frequently uses for political theatre.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei often participates in Friday prayers in Tehran and has often used these appearances to express strong criticisms of the US, Israel and the West.

But any public appearance by Khamanei could be risky for the Iranian leader.

Israel has refused to rule out the possibility of targeting him, with defense minister Israel Katz saying on Thursday that Khamenei “cannot continue to exist.”

UN nuclear watchdog findings are not a basis for military action, organization’s head says

From CNN’s Angus Watson

Evidence gathered on Iran’s nuclear program by the International Atomic Energy Agency can “hardly be a basis for any military action,” the organization’s head said Thursday.

“Military action, from wherever it comes, is a political decision that has nothing to do with what we’re saying,” Rafael Grossi told CNN’s Anderson Cooper.

After launching its first wave of strikes on Iran, Israel pointed to a recent IAEA report that acknowledged Iran is enriching uranium to a higher level than other countries without nuclear weapons programs, in violation of its nuclear non-proliferation obligations.

But Grossi told Cooper there was no indication of a “systematic program in Iran to produce a nuclear weapon.”

This week, US President Donald Trump said he thought Iran was “very close” to having a nuclear weapon.

Israel would need US help to take out Iran’s Fordow nuclear site, buried deep in the Iranian mountains, as only the US military has the massive “bunker buster” bombs thought to be capable of effectively striking an underground target at such depths.

Asked by Cooper whether he is concerned about the possible consequences of a US strike on Fordow, Grossi said “diplomacy is the way forward.”

Physical structures can be destroyed, but you cannot destroy knowledge. You cannot destroy technological advancements, advancements being made in a country,” Grossi said.

Israel’s military said it had killed nine Iranian nuclear scientists. Iran has acknowledged nuclear scientists were killed by Israel in the attack, without saying how many.

Grossi this week rebuffed Iranian claims the IAEA has presented a “misleading narrative” over its nuclear program and said the organization stood ready to “closely monitor and assess the situation regarding the Israeli attacks on nuclear sites.”

Regime change in Iran would be unacceptable, Kremlin says

Regime change in Iran would be “unacceptable,” and the assassination of the country’s supreme leader would “open the Pandora’s box,” Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told Sky News in an interview released early on Friday.

Asked how Russia would react if Israel, with US assistance, were to assassinate Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Peskov told Sky News’ Ivor Bennett: “Very negatively, we would strongly disapprove it.”

“It will lead to an action coming from inside Iran,” Peskov said. “It would lead to the birth of extremist moods in Iran and those who are speaking about (killing Khamenei), they should keep it in mind.”

Peskov also said that “(regime change in Iran) is unimaginable. It should be unacceptable, even talking about that should be unacceptable for everyone,” according to Sky News.

The comments appear to be the Kremlin’s strongest yet about the conflict between Israel and Iran, a key Russian ally in the Middle East.

For context: Russia and Iran have long had close diplomatic and military ties, a relationship that has only strengthened following Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, which was itself an attempt to topple a democratically elected government in Kyiv.

If you’re just joining us

Let’s bring you up to speed on the latest developments:
  • An Iranian missile attack has caused damage in southern Israel’s Beersheba after what the municipality said was a “direct hit”; fires and massive plumes of smoke could be seen at the site of the strike.
  • Israeli emergency services say at least five people were “lightly injured” in the attack, Israel’s Channel 12 is reporting.
  • Separately, the Israeli military also says it intercepted three Iranian drones in the Dead Sea area overnight.
  • British Foreign Secretary David Lammy says the next two weeks offer “a window” for a diplomatic solution to the conflict after the Trump administration says it will decide on whether to join the conflict within that timeframe.
  • In the Gaza Strip, at least 34 Palestinians have been killed since midnight in Israeli attacks, including at least 23 who were killed when Israeli forces opened fire on people seeking aid near the Netzarim Corridor in central Gaza.

Notice how its always "Regime" for non western countries.

Using western media wording we could say

"Protests erupt in US against Trump regime as deportations without due process continues"

Then maybe talk about assassinating Trump to liberate Americans

Analysis

US rivals – China, Russia – would welcome Trump’s intervention in Iran, another ‘long war’

While China’s chief concern may be keeping Iran’s oil pipelines open and regional trade and investment flowing, it would also benefit indirectly from a US intervention, said Australia National University’s Alam Saleh who spoke to Al Jazeera earlier.
“If they intervene, that will make China and Russia very happy. They wish for the United States to get involved with an open-ended, long war with a country which is relatively strong. Iran is not the Houthis in Yemen, it’s not the Taliban in Afghanistan, and – of course – it’s not Syria or Iraq,” he said.
“If the United States intervenes, [China and Russia] will try to prolong this war by a kind of support for Iran, to keep it alive, to fight, to prostrate the United States for another few years in the region at least,” he said.
“However, they will not intervene or interfere directly.”
