I may be off, but I wonder if that Christina scene was there for the audience more than for the story. Kind of like a way of making white people understand what happened to Emmet since like she said in the episode she doesn’t care which is probably how most white people feel since they can’t relate so it was a way of saying hey this is what it would look like to one of you.

Thought EP was mostly dope, kinda slow to start and I'm still really meh on the Ruby/Christina subplot, with the re-hashing of themes. Def seems like a tumblr fan story. Diana's was interesting and felt overly Jordan Peele-ish. Thought the spirts were kinda of corny but scary at the same time When she told off on 12 and called em a pig

The plot twist with Tic having his son's book and having the show book kinda mirror the real book was interesting. Really wanna see where they take that. Montrose being dyslexic and reading spells But I guess the Spell worked then.

We were giving this show a chance because it was supposed to be some epic black sifi shyt and its a jumbled mess

I haven’t watched this episode yet to see if it possibly redeemed itself but I also have no desire to do so

I was talking to a friend about the show and with the last 3 episodes just being we were talking about dropping it honestly. I said Ill watch this last episode and if it isnt GREAT, im done. Even if it was just ok or good, I would drop it. shyt was great. It didnt redeem itself because with such a short season, you cant have that many episodes be subpar consecutively and not take the hit. But this episode was great and like someone said, when it focuses on Tic/Letti and dials the magic back with them focusing on more local/relatable stuff, its a much better show. Its like this shouldve been two different shows entirely.

That’s quite possible, even probable. Most white people don’t know the story of Emmett Till in any kind of detail.

I'm on episode 5 now. Decided to give it another shot.

So far...I think the problem is Misha Green. As with Underground (season 2 especially)

It doesnt know how to be fun, but be subtle as well. Sort of cheapens how compelling the show could/can be.

Maybe its great every episode from now on though.

I think that's part of it and at least showing (in her own fukked up way) she's actually trying to connect with Ruby? I know the thread is quick to call her a villain because she's a white woman in mostly black story but if anything she's more along the lines of an anti-hero. She acts in her own self interest and has loose if any morals but she hasn't done anything to explicitly harm or kill our "heroes" so far. In fact she's helped them (and uses them), but always made them pay for it. She even warns Letti that Tic was being an idiot and could get them all killed in an earlier ep. She'll be villain status if she actually sacrifices Tic during the equinox.

Prediction: we're gonna end up finding out that the sacrifice has to be willing. Tic will have to make a terrible choice forcing him into it. And Korean woman will try to take his place or save him, causing disaster.
