I got a folder where I do all my shops for the Coli and in it, I have a "the-coli.png". I don't always tag my username but you could also have "3rivers.png" already set, like that, it will be easier and automatic.

Put it with some transparency and not in a very corner of the .gif. This way, people will not try to crop it and take credit.
And the best (on a still image) is to put your tag subtly IN the image.

The new generation doesn't give credits on the internet (well most of em), so tagging it will at least make your name or/and the-coli known as the author.
For example, when I did the "Fredo out the cut" mini-clip on youtube, one dude just jacked it and put it on his youtube channel without giving credit to me nor the-coli. Fortunately, I had tagged the video with "the coliseum" so even if jacked, everybody saw where it came from...
