Ok, for the 100th time, the committee doesn't shyt the bed at anything. They're not stupid. They ensure the marquee programs/markets get in, but they also ensure enough sleeper small-market programs get in to fukk up the brackets and mess with gamblers.
This is more about ensuring sportsbooks get paid, advertisers and networks get paid, and they create the illusion of parity while still ensuring the teams everyone wants to see make it to the final stages.
