It's interesting how much gold (Au) plays a part in nanotechnology, especially bio-medical applications. Carbon every one pretty much expected, but I don't know if they saw all the possibilities with gold.
Good catalyst for reactions, conductivity properties, etc etc

I dropped out of college years ago (was studying computer science. I'm still a pretty good computer programmer though). I've been seriously considering going back to school to study nanotechnology. I was thinking of first getting a B.S. in Physics then go into a graduate program for materials science and engineering (seems closely related to nanoscale stuff) but am not 100% sure.

I know people frown on the military industrial complex but I've always wanted to have my own DARPA/Lockheed Martin-type conglomerate where we're researching bleeding edge military, medical, and transhumanist technology. I'm weird I know.

Also, good documentary:

I don't have any working knowledge but if anything Ray Kurzweil has been saying turns out even remotely accurate :banderas:

That dude is smart but he's also done a lot of mental mastrubation. I'm more into the works of Eric Drexler when ti comes to Nanotechnology. Engines of Creation is a masterpiece.

This is one thing I would definitely go to school for.

It's the future. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but years from now... definitely.

Nanotech is to 2014 what the internet was to 1995. No one can even begin to predict how big it will get and how much it will overtake and change our lives yet here it comes.

I honestly think the reason nanotech has not blown up as much as it should is because the people in control know how powerful it's going to be.

Did you know that the most advanced research in nanotech is coming out of Israel. And it is closely tied to the military there. If you know anything about Israel then that should raise some eyebrows

Yeah this one research place in Israel has alot of presentations on their site: http://www.nanoisrael.org/category.aspx?id=17016

It ain't the future breh, it's now. These things are being researched and developed now. It's wide open but the difference from the Internet or other markets is that nanotechnology requires very specialized equipment and clean rooms. It's very expensive research field at the moment.

All the ways we will use nanotechnology to fukk ourselves:mjcry:*

We all know humanity has a propensity for self-sabotage*

For all of the great possibilities there are some terrible scenarios and the nightmares are more probable than the fantasies*

Hope for the best:lupe:*

Humanity? You mean cacs. Lets be specific.

Imagine making a drone or a robot the size of a fruit fly (or smaller) equipped with an HD camera and wifi/bluetooth connectivity (to sniff network traffic and relay the data to some command center). You'll be able to spy on people without them even knowing.

...And to take it a step further -- imagine a drone like that carrying a deadly virus (like ebola or something). You could kill people and they won't even see it coming.

Damn......
