Brehs how ridiculous was the idea that Nas fell off between I Am and Stillmatic in retrospect :why:

Son literally dropped some of the GOAT hip hop verses ever in that era

Because the criticism was coming from people who wanted entire albums from Nas that sounded like the songs you posted.

I agree, and some of us always rode for Esco on SoHH. That era was mad competitive though, radio was still powerfull and the payola was off the charts - that's when Dame and Jay flexed their muscles and started the "Jay is King of NY/GOAT" campaigns which led to all the NY beefs. Nas dropped classic verses but Nastradamus was considered a letdown and he was a nowshow on radio.

He shut them all up soon enough though.

This.

A certain sector of Nas fans hated those songs. These were all fire to me. The only thing I hated from Nas during that era was the song with JD and Monica.

What is this fukkin goof talking about? IWW Nas was far more popular in real time than Illmatic Nas. These ATL nikkas is crashin out cause they finished.

He’s not talking about only Nas/Illmatic is good or worthy of acknowledgement. He’s just making a distinction between Nas and whoever the hell else Nasir is that they were referring to.

He even said “Gods Son” Nasir

His main record got leaked and bootlegged, so he recorded some new songs to out on the albums
while also dealing with his mom sickness and eventually dying. Albums was still good just not the usual sharp cohesive albums. IMO Nastradamus got some fire joints and some great concepts.
