Complex made a top 100 Nas songs no Street Dreams Remix Take It In Blood not listed :dead: :dead: Rewind not top 50 :pachaha: I Gave You Power at 30:mjlol: No Stay:dead:

To be fair Nas has a 300 song catalogue and if they included recent joints like Spicy, EPMD, Thun, and Speechless on the list them we can’t accuse them of omitting his later work in favor of the 90’s stuff. It stands to reason that, objectively, some of his older tracks will be overtaken by the newer

But they did include recent joints omitting Take It Blood Stay Street Dreams Remix is a crime. There's no top 100 Nas song list without those even Store Run was left off:francis:. Probably the best way to do it is not include features

A top 100 without Take It In Blood is literally a disqualification imo. Literally one of the GOAT Nas songs of all time and that's basically universal for any Nas fan.

I kinda wish people (Nas fans..myself included) just say IWW is your fav album. Hard to say its better than Illmatic when his most iconic songs are Illmatic.
For some people that album was thier introduction to Nas (I'm one of them). Someone told be about Illmatic later, and after that I was a fan for life. 96 was one of the best years in Hip-hop. A lot of us were still very young, and just starting to listen.

Agreed. My first album introduction to Nas was I AM. I still love this album to this day. That album got crazy play in cars and everywhere back then. A personal classic.

Ehhhh I know some people that are fans of Illmatic and not much else of Nas material but i’ve NEVER met someone who was a fan of both Illmatic and IWW who wasn’t a least a casual Nas fan all around.
People liking illmatic and not anything else from Nas is pure brainwashing, because there ain’t no way haha

A lot of these cats who be like “I’m a Nas fan” ain’t Nas fans. They don’t accept he moved past the mid 90s and there PLENTY of people like that especially in the internet. I tell people all the time. If u only fukk wit Illmatic. U not a Nas fan. U an Illmatic fan. Ur a fan of the product. Not the artist who created it.

There are different types of Nas fans based on eras and while that's true of most big rappers it seems more true for Nas. There are Illmatic fans who only like that album and a selection of tracks off his other albums. There are fans who basically fukked with Nas from Illmatic (or IWW) through Stillmatic and then lost interest. There are fans who like everything except the 1999 albums. I think most fans probably focus on the Illmatic-God's Son run. They may have a different favorite album or run but it lands somewhere in there.

Which is interesting. Do you think that dynamic comes down to the following reasons. People just stopping liking the music, the artistic risk he took (because Nas always wanted to try new things), media purposely trying to downplay him and lower his worth to elevate others, dumbing down of society because let’s be honest Nas isn’t the cup of tea for many because he isn’t a cookie cutter MC, or maybe it’s a combination of all those things. It always felt like Nas was fighting forces behind the scenes. The media was after Nas after his first album, complaining about it was written. No other MC had to battle that. Nas also never seemed to run towards the hot artist at the time either.

different era of Nas fans because if you broke down his albums really none of them sound alike. Only I Am Nastradamus& LT1(for obvious reasons). Does Illmatic sound anything like IWW? people became fans of his during different time periods Illmatic IWW Stillmatic I Am even God's Son. Let's face it he lost a lot of people during the SD HHID Untitled era despite those albums moving units the general consensus was that wasn't what people really wanted from him at the time
