I agree, I've always thought that the point system was archaic and they needed to go win percentage like in the other sports. If not that at do a W-L-SOW point system.
W- 2 points
Shootout win- 1 point
Loss at at point- 0 points
All the OTL does is promote fake parity which the NHL doesn't really have.

W/L nothing else,no third column,no 4th column,no 5th column....You play an OT of 10-20 mins do it 4 on 4 or 3 on 3 if you have too....i dont even like the damn shoot out and never have its like the NBA resolving an OT tie with a free throw contest,thats how stupid it is,it hasnt been interesting since mid way thru the first year they did it....You can still keep the point system if you want but it should be a win or a loss from a game nothing else.

Some of the things this league does they dont realize makes it look really minor league....People will start respecting the damn league when they get out of this bush league era crap they stuck in....it honestly does take away from the sport.

I hear more people talking about overtime points deciding the final playoff spots then anything else right now lol...

Always thought 5 minutes wasn't enough time to decide an OT period, was is an extra 5-10 minutes gonna really hurt anybody. OTL was supposed to give teams an extra incentive not to go to the tie back in the last 90s, since the tie is eliminated, there really isn't a need for OTL point either.

Games from february til april are unwatchable when the teams are dug into those playoff spots,you could go on a 12 game winning streak and make up no ground cuz everyone is picking up OTL and shootout points along the way....Why watch a game in March between two teams between 1-6.

Neither team is playing for the win,they are both playing not to lose,both will be content on trapping there way to 1 point and letting a shoot out decide it...
Its crazy to say but alot of these teams are clearly playing not to lose at this time of year...the games are a complete bore right now until the playoffs...

If you got rid of that stupid ass consolation point,these teams would be forced to go for wins cuz a few OTLs and you could go from the 3rd seed down to 7th if teams behind you start winning...

I dont get how they didnt see these rules were gonna make the games so boring and unwatchable...


Even the OTs right now stink,teams aint trying to win...
