I just started watching NJPW in January...so I always thought the G1 winner won the no.1 contendership for the main event @ WK?


Well if that's the case, why is DC Naito in the tourny at all?


And I thought Ospreay was back in the Uk and suicidal/thinking about quitting wrestling? How is HE gonna show up?

The IWGP champ is always included in the G1. In the current era of the G1, they've never won, but in the event that they did, they would get to choose their own challenger for the Tokyo Dome. Really, they're in there solely to set up title defenses against anyone who beats them. Usually, they'll take one or two losses to set up defenses at King of Pro Wrestling/Power Struggle, or whatever. Basically, they want both the current champ and the winner to take at least one L so there's intrigue of both of them having to defend their side of the match before January.

I only watch matches that interest me. Depending on the Block finals and main final I may tune in.
