Chewitel or McConoughey will take the best actor nod, Leo will get his one day and the irony is it will be for a film that is way below his usual standards

She'd have to be just because her contemporaries aren't getting the same type of love yet but they're coming up. It has to be people in her same age bracket and most of them are either stuck doing certain type of flicks, burned out, or ascending.
I have to agree with this. I thought Carey Mulligan, Mia Wasiwoka and Saorise Ronan would have or should have been as big by now.

Well to be fair, they haven't been the main star of a huge franchise and she's in two: X Men and The Hunger Games.
Yea, the exposure has been so much more. But Carey has but putting in work for a couple of years now imo, An Education, Never Let Me go!

So Brehs if Jen Lawrence wins again this year, is she the leader of the new class?

Its obvious she's the current "chosen one" of young white actress so I expect her to win. I knew American Hustle was going to get crazy love because that just how it is sometimes. Hollywood is predicable as fukk.

This awards shyt is more political than some are willing to admit.

It would be nice to see Lupita win.
I think Lupita had the best female performance of the year, lead or supporting. I love Jennifer Lawrence, but It would be an Eddie Murphy/Dream Girls level robbery if Lupita lost to her. JLaw wasn't nearly as good.

In the lead female category, everything I've read puts Cate Blanchett in the lead with Sandra Bullock right behind her. Amy Adams actually just snuck in because for some reason the Academy snubbed Emma Thompson. I don't expect Adams to win.

Best Supporting actor is Jared Leto's to lose, but I'm rooting for Fassbender. Jonah Hill absolutely deserves the nomination this time. He definitely didn't deserve it for Moneyball...

Best Lead Actor is a wide open race and nearly every nominee is deserving. I haven't seen Nebraska yet though. I doubt both Lupita and Chiwetel win imo, and I'd bet on Lupita. That leaves Leo, Batman, Mud, and Bruce Dern. I'd bet on Mud or Leo, even though Bruce Dern had all the early buzz.

And Best Picture is looking like American Hustle vs. 12 years a Slave vs. Gravity(in that order). I keep reading that Alfonso Cuaron might steal Best Director for Gravity, with David O. Russell having an outside chance at taking it. Prepare to be angry about that. McQueen deserves it over both.

To sum it up...
Best Supp Actress- Lupita
Best Supp Actor- Leto
Best Actress- Cate Blanchett/Sandra Bullock
Best Actor- Mud/Leo/Dern/Chiwetel/Bale in that order for now, in the tighest race since Kevin Spacey beat Denzel in 2000.
Best Director- Alfonso Cuaron (Gravity)
Best Picture- American Hustle, sadly.

I like these picks. But best Picture. Wolf will take it. People will question the academy about AH when it comes out on blue ray 10 years from now if they win best picture. It does not have rewatch value imo.

I think right now, American Hustle and 12 Years are the frontrunners but Wolf of Wall Street could gain some momentum. I think 12 years a slave and Wolf of Wall Street have the "saying something" vibe that the Oscars like. While Hustle is based on a true story, it's ultimately a heist flick. 12 years is obviously saying a lot about America and where we've been as a country and a powerful flick. Wolf is just as relevant now as it was for the 90s in which its based and they both have a common thread: Greed makes man do ugly things.
