he was checked out before the series started. the one thing that got him hot was finding out wendy cleaned him out and planned on leaving him and the kids. and if he had turned around when her boyfriend became a street pizza and took the kids and left chicago for washington or something, he could have just continued moving checked out until he found a reason to care again.

charlotte fell in line and you could tell eventually she becomes sorta like wendy when she gets older

at the end i just became frustrated with all of em

and the crash happened and kinda hoped it was a wrap for at least one of em…
