I don't see it as being hypocritical at all. In S1 you get to know all of these characters and why they are so fukked up. Will you like it? Probably not. It doesn't sound like it to me. But the reason WHY most people like it is because beyond all of the fukked up shyt that happens to them and shyt that they get involved with, there are still a lot of character beats and serious/dramatic scenes that develop the characters and stories.
If you're starting the show at S2 E1 you are missing everything that got these people to the point they are at and in Peacemaker's case everyone should really be starting with 'The Suicide Squad'
I've watched The Suicide Squad, and I watched a recap video of Peacemaker Season 1.
I didn't go into season 2 blind. Peacemaker Season 2, Episode 1 include some unnecessary things and I'm not the only one to say so
