I felt like it was a pretty good look at how a good amount of philanthropy and charitable work comes out of self-interest moreso than actually caring about an issue. It's similar to the Kinderguardians sketch in that these people are willing to read ANYTHING off of a teleprompter without giving much consideration to what they're actually saying...how do people get through all of this without considering "this sounds insane." The Kinderguardians joint was especially good to me because they showed one rep actually turning him down to start.

Not related to the quote but related to the thread:
- The Washington Post

The town from the Mosque skit is hella defensive but also says they'll use this to take steps toward improvements...I mean, it sounds like a saving face thing all around but maybe it's the pressure needed to actually get a few people to do some legit soul searching.

He looked happier with his new kit.

I hate to be the old guy here but what’s wrong with throwing stuff? I’m surprised these impoverished kids didn’t ask for drones. Lazy ass child soldiers.

I dunno about the specific people complaining, but there's a legit gripe in there which deals with the fact that Sasha Baron Cohen, AFAIK, has no clear moral center and thus no ability to stay on message....

If he could stay on message and focus on exposing people who are actually ill-willed towards others, he'd be doing God's work. But he loses track of the narrative because he doesn't fully have one.
I said this a good month ago and now reviewers are echoing darn near my exact words.

The show feels oddly formless to me...

I think all successful comedy has one thing in common: a point of view. By this, I simply mean that successful comedy is filtered through some specific perspective....This is where Who Is America falls apart, week after week.

I spent far too long in any given episode of Who Is America watching segments that simply went on forever, looking for something to say, then just sort of stopped...

It doesn’t really work, but maybe its goal isn’t to work. I’m not sure it wants to do anything beyond make sure the other guy takes one on the chin.
Like I said, there's no clear message, no clear goal to get to. It seems like he could be doing so much more good with his talents, and instead it just becomes sort of nihilistic because he doesn't have an actual point to make.
