I thought it was a B/B+ start to the season. Even the weakest skits had a laugh or two.

I liked the Airport and Girls skits. :dead: at Bobby walking in as the Farter and Kenan with that big ass suitcase.

Kenan kept the new castmember/Arcade Fire from falling apart by yelling at everyone.

Cecily was good on WU, and Drunk Uncle was great as it always is. The hack comedian bit sucked though. In fact, none of the new cast members really stood out on the first episode.

Like Tina said, it's a rebuilding season. There's a lot of talent in the cast; they just need someone like McKinnon, Killam, or Cecily Strong to emerge as a star.

Episode 1 (co-)MVPs - McKinnon and Thompson

The Tina Fey episode was pretty good, now that Kristin Wigg is gone I see McKinnon becoming the next star of the show
Idk, shes kinda in the same boat of funny face/funny voice schtick, but Wiig did it better. Im not sure there's any real stars in this cast.

Lol at the guy from those phone ads with the kids being on the show now.

Next week should be interesting with Miley. :shaq:

I think Cecily is a star guys. Really excited for her in WU. Kenan looks like he's gonna be in the Bill Hader glue guy role. I think the new female stood out with her Lena Dunham impersonation. Pretty spot on. Solid episode and I really hope it can keep it up this season. The show definitely has a different energy to it this year.

I think Kenan's in that Moynihan camp: good enough to be great supporting players but not dynamic enough to be stars.

The only potential stars on the show right now are Killam, Strong, and McKinnon.

BTW, it still makes me sad how they STILL can't find a use for Petrad. I may be in the minority but I still think that girl has serious talent.

Keenan's Steve Harvey is always gold :russ:

It was fire last night too.

The last month of episodes have been underwhelming, even last night. Thought the screaming girls ruined the 1st sketch, and you could tell Aidy Bryant wanted to tell them to STFU.

McKinnon is the season MVP so far, followed by Kenan and Cecily. Pharoah's improved a lot this season.

I was watching some Good Neighbor (Beck Bennett and Kyle Mooney's old sketch crew) sketches this afternoon. They need to let those two cook and give them their own sketches.

new castmember to debut during Drake episode next week:

http://www.cnn.com/2014/01/06/showbiz/nbc-snl-sasheer-zamata/

sasheer-zamata-joins-saturday-night-live-as-new-cast-member.jpg

Sasheer Zamata will join "Saturday Night Live" this month, making her the first African-American female in the show's cast in six years, a show rep said Monday. Zamata will make her debut on the late-night sketch comedy show on January 18, when hip-hop star Drake is scheduled to host, the rep said. The comedian has been honing her skills with the Upright Citizens Brigade in New York since graduating from the University of Virginia with a drama degree in 2009, according to her official biography.

Producers of the NBC show have been criticized for the lack of diversity since Maya Rudolph left the cast six years ago. In October, "SNL" cast member Kenan Thompson told TV Guide the show had difficulty finding qualified black female comedians to hire. He insisted that the talent pool was limited because so many of the women were not seasoned enough for the job.

Executive Producer Lorne Michaels told The New York Times last month he was holding audition and that a black woman would be added to the cast in January. "All told, we've seen about 25 people," he said. "A lot of the people we saw are really good. Hopefully, we'll come out of the process well." Zamata, whose name was one of those floated in media reports, is known for her comedy videos online in which she writes and performs.
