I'll trust you on this since my hip-hop knowledge is mainly from the 2000s. I am just nit picking anyway. I mainly want to know what's the shows angle with this story. Was Jerome pissed or interested in signing him?

The way Jerome is dressing and showing an interest in those tapes I have a feeling he’s going to be a Harry O type character.

Hope so. His character has been underwhelming since season 3. Jerome ain't the type to kill anyone especially civilians, so I can see this happening.

Yeah he always been looking for a way out lowkey since the move from green to white. And he had the music store. U can already tell the wheels spinnin' in his head.

I noticed that - flow was too advanced and it ain't Cali style, the flow is East coast. What do you think is going to happen to this rapper kid, what's the angle?

But West Coast style is an evolution of a particular east coast track. Ice-T was using Schoolly D’s flow from “PSK” to make “6 In The Morning” which later inspired Ice Cube on “Boys In The Hood”.

Although I do agree the style of flow on that track last night was a bit advanced for the early 80s I know there were some MCs doing advanced flows early on. I’ll have to dig for examples because I’m drawing blanks at the moment, but I remember hearing a Melle Mel track from back then that blew my mind recently because I thought he only had one speed.

I had been thinking about making a thread in the Booth about this and trying to find examples of LA cats really spitting in the vein of how dude was rapping in the episode. Cube and Ren had bars and could spit but IDK if they were going in like that. The DOC had flow too but he was from Dallas and i'm not sure he had made it over to LA at that time around 86/87

Do it. I’m pretty sure I have some examples.
