I liked Vol 2. Other than the coming out scene taking too long, I do think it makes sense that most of them are there (sans Murray and Kali). He's been coddled and protected as a helpless baby the entire series by Joyce, by Jonathan, the Party...Nancy is big sis and he's big brother to Erica. All of them already suspected, along with Robin. They're all outcasts (not Nancy or Steve), and Mr. Clark would've been called gay back then too.
Now, they're all about to march into the final battle, which they don't think they'll all survive, so they're an army. During a time coming out as gay in the army would've caused you to be ostracized and kicked out. He told he BFF he was in love with him lol, what do you think would've happened. Vecna used this against Will, playing along with his own insecurities, that his friends would turn on him, and view him as weak, and lesser. Mind you, he's the one that's felt the effects of the team growing apart the most, as they've aged. He can't go into battle with that on his conscious, and be effective. They actually spelled it out for you in the scene. He needed to let them/himself know that he's not helpless, he's not a detriment to them or the mission, and know they won't abandon him if they discovered his "secret". But Will has been a whiny, crying, sheltered baby up until season 5 Vol 1, but now people have a problem with him finally overcoming it and stepping up?
But the times were different. People could secretly know but once it was made public, they took a stand publicly...usually against. I do think they also balanced by showing most of their facial reactions, most being proud...Mike with the ok what you want me to do with that.
I also think the best moments involve most of the large cast together playing off of one another.
Oh yeah, hate to break it to you, no one of significance is going to die. That's like 15 protected cast members. It's not that kind of show - its a throwback to the cheesiness of the 80s where everyone survives. They're gonna make it emotional with everyone living, even if changed.
