Saw the prologue before Star Wars. I thought it was just gonna be a trailer and I guess the rest of the audience did too because they were clearly not feeling the prologue as it trodded on and on. Outside of the audiovisual aesthetics straight out of The Dark Knight and Inception (down to an obnoxiously overblown and present soundtrack), I was completely confused on what made anyone at WB think this scene was going to sell the movie.
We're presented with a straight forward and frankly uneventful action sequence that offers zero context of the plot or characters, making it a completely empty experience. When the scene ended and the title appeared, people actually sighed in relief until realizing there's a mini trailer playing after the prologue and it still wasn't over.
Maybe it was because the room was full of people ready to see Star Wars and not interested in anything else, but this universal rejection of the prologue was pretty much my highlight of the night.
