I don't think it's covid. They been talking about ending it here for a couple seasons now and book readers say the later books basically change genres completely and get into super weird alien shyt. They probably didn't want to take the show there.

The books are set up as 3 trilogies for the most part. This last saeson ties a bow on a lot of storylines and is the end of the 2nd trilogy

The next book changes up things a lot that would be really hard to pull off on a tv show.
