I convinced my wife to see this with me in the theater tomorrow and I can almost guarantee she’ll be as mad at me as she was when we saw Bladerunner 2049

I went through the exact same thing. I give my wife a ton of credit because she jumped in with both feet into my nerd shyt when she got with me, at least movie wise. But she's still only into the sci fi for beginners movies. She hated Blade Runner 2049 while I thought that shyt was fantastic. I'll probably be waiting till video for this one

Lol, my wife was PISSED when I made her watch Bladerunner with me. Same though, I loved it and she was bored out of her mind. I might catch a matinee of this next week instead but I know she has a craving for movie popcorn so she'll probably still wanna go to the theater

Just watched it. Ngl I’m a little disappointed. I hate using this term but it really felt like style over substance.

Spoiler: What I think the movie was about.

I think it does an excellent job at showing people how doing the right thing can change your entire history. Differing from the poem the main character fails almost all the test throughout the movie. You know he wants to be great. You know he’s ambitious, he wants to have a legendary story for his uncle, the king. As much as he wants to he can’t stop sleeping with prostitutes and getting drunk. When the year is up he tries hard to get out of going on the journey but still goes.

It’s like the story of a person that wants to do right but can’t help being human and fukking up all the time. He really wants to live up to what a knight truly is but can’t stop screwing up. Finally at the end of his life in his final moment he decides, I’d rather die like a man, than live like a coward. He accepts his fate and in that one moment he becomes what he always wanted, a true legend. It’s 2021 and there’s a movie being made about this story. He immortalized himself by making an honorable and courageous choice at his last moment.

i just take from that, that in one moment you really can change everything, and you should because the alternative is a life of shame and regret.

I definitely think it had substance. It's a coming of age tale for a kid that wants to be great. And he falls to temptation every single time. I think the movie did a good job in conveying that. I think the movie (story, acting and cinematography) comes together wonderfully, but it just isn't a classic movie. I really do think it's the changes from the story.

Nah, I see this shyt all the time on this sub-forum. Just because someone loves a film that didn’t meet your expectations doesn’t mean you have to belittle their opinion. Film is all subjective, people are gonna have different views.
