The problem is they don't want people who are "marks" for the business. I've actually applied to a few gigs for the writing team and website, they ask you how knowledgeable you are in the application but I feel like they just want people who watched during boom periods or as a kid, not adult fans who still watch the product.
I get that. Don't want your judgement clouded by what YOU would do if you were booking it (as that's not always the best way), etc. But that kind of sums it up. They want drones to go work for a boss who is said to not respect people unless they stand up to him and disagree, etc.
My point is, though, a knowledgeable wrestling fan should -- by virtue of being one of them -- be knowledgeable about its target audience. Not only should they be able to craft a compelling narrative or chapter, they'd also be able to deliver an "unfavorable" thing in a palatable enough fashion to maintain the interest of the fan. That's what you need. Someone who understands what you're trying to do and understands the demographic and shyt enough to relay that message to them in a consistently compelling fashion. You don't have to be a flat out "mark" to accomplish that.
