Just finished this last night. Damn this was so good. Spiritual successor to the wire which makes perfect sense considering the staff involved. I thought it was compelling enough of a story that it could have been a couple of seasons instead of just one.
In the last episode, they have to wrap things up so quickly that they just give you text summaries of what happened to some of the people involved. I think it would have been worth watching all that play out.

The ending scene though....powerful. really masterful juxtaposition between that flashback to the reverie of comraderie that subsequently led to his isolation on the yard...
