They're preventing the league from growing. college players will never leave early, and good players won't get a chance to play. If their season was aligned with the foreign leagues, they could have FIBA like tournaments. Basically, under the current format the WNBA will be a novelty. The Reese vs Clark drama is the ONLY thing that driving anything at this point. Artificially inflated gibberish and storylines. I'm speaking from a pure basketball development stand point. Rookies and foreign players come into the league at disadvantage every year. It's a bad business model.
I agree.

It is a novelty. Has been since the first 6-8 seasons. They initially expanded too fast after killing the ABL and it hurt them tremendously. Sticking with ESPN did too.

If they do change, it’ll be after an Olympic cycle and when they have more than 16 teams. So you’ll have to wait until 2029 at the earliest AND hope the value of the teams go up a lot.

They don’t want FIBA like tournaments and have to break up the ecosystem they’ve built. If they had to compete against European teams they would have to pay a lot more to keep talent here. (Sidenote: You see the same model with the NWSL. America has the best league because who is watching the other leagues? We win the World Cup and Gold medals…..) They don’t want the college kids to have it “easy”. Look at players 9-12 on most teams. Foreign players don’t move the needle for their hardcore fans. They want to watch the players they know from college. The fans they want now enjoy these emotion driven storylines so they their sponsors can sell stuff to people who don’t actually care about the long term viability of women’s professional basketball.

Yeah, it’s trash. I hate it. But I’m gonna continue to support the league.

how is the Reese vs Clark drama helping the Liberty or Lynx, who are the top 2 teams in the league and just played in the finals? I can't even get courtside seats for the Dream/Mercury upcoming games and you want me to believe Caitlin Clark is responsible for that???

So the Aces and Liberty sold out their home game last season(20 games) and I can't get a courtside ticket to see sabally/AT battle with our former franchise player because Clark fans are encouraging everyone to buy the tickets??? The same people that have said, and I quote, "Clark is injured, I won't be watching or attending the games she's out.... But they are encouraging everyone else to buy tickets to games she has nothing to do with.. ok.... I must be completely stupid, because I don't understand that..

For people wondering way Dominique Malonga is barely getting any minutes in Seattle, she just finished playing an entire season in France (September - April). So her season was longer and she faced pro players. And had her team made it further in the playoffs, she would've missed the start of the WNBA season.

The WNBA has had a fukked up business model for a long time. Eventually they are going to have to move their entire schedule so that it matches the rest of the basketball leagues around the world.
idk if thats it because on the other hand mcbride is already back and shes been playing basketball literally nonstop
