I went to MEPs (military processing) today. Went through some nonsense but still made it through and signed the contract. My mos (job) is 15T- Blackhawk helicopter mechanic. I come in as an E4 because of my college degree, and I ship out in precisely one month.

OCS is extremely competitive. How is a nikka like me, who hasn't held a job in over 4 years and has only a slightly above mediocre GPA, gonna compete with a trilingual Eagle Scout with a dozen glowing letters of recommendation?Plus, I don't see many benefits in being an officer, with the exception of cushier living conditions and more money (neither are terribly important to me. I'd much rather learn to become proficient at my job).

Bruh you should've went airforce ...you're going to realize that as soon as you start meeting people who've been in longer or are from other branches (I'm in the Air Force and I was on a joint base with the army. so I interacted with them daily, and know the BS they go through) ...but with that being said military is a great opportunity especially since you're starting off as an E4 as soon as you get in. Plus you have a degree already? You're gunna be Einstein to those army nikkas when you get in

That being said, you need to use this to your advantage, because service in the Army can lead to incredible rewards at the end of your service commitment, particularly if you want to get more education/high-paying government job.
