Sounds like you didn't major in Engineering I got classmates making between 50-65K right out of college

I don't like when people try to throw this around like it's something every can do. Firstly not everyone can or wants to be an engineer. Secondly, many engineering programs are limited enrollment, so off the bat even if many did want to be engineers not everyone will get accepted.

also they usually take a person with experience over a colleges degree (my job is structural engineer and the only reason I really joined the Air Force was for experience and school) plus off experience; it's more valuable to know how to actually do something then just knowing how.

college degree and you didn't go officer?
I was thinking the same thing. Like don't everybody without a degree starts as an E-4. Probably not a regionally accredited degree.

I went to MEPs (military processing) today. Went through some nonsense but still made it through and signed the contract. My mos (job) is 15T- Blackhawk helicopter mechanic. I come in as an E4 because of my college degree, and I ship out in precisely one month.

You didn't want to get a commission or even try HighSchool to flight school?

They told you OCS is competitive that sounds good on paper all you needed was to find an officer recruiter.

Naw everybody usually starts at E2 but can get E3 after leaving tech school depending on what kind of contract they agree on, or apparently even higher depending on if they have a degree already. ( I got E4 about a year ago and I've been in for three years and some change ...OPs about to start off where it took me about about two years to get. So he's in a good position)

That kind of logic and attitude shows me that you made the right choice NOT to go officer. :dame:

BTW There are other ways to go Officer besides OCS and that are easier than OCS. Props to your recruiter for being a good liar.:ehh:

At least you picked a MOS that can translate well into the civilian world. Good luck on your journey.
shyt, nikka couldve went warrant officer or something

nikka with degree joins army, doesnt go intel, and doesnt go officer

Yeah... No.

Most people come in as E1

There are special things that you can do to become E2-E3 before and during bootcamp but your recruiter has to let you know watsup and it HAS to be in your contract

Also, you have to do everything correctly in bootcamp to receive it. And even still you might not get it if they decide to fukk you over.

Its what happened to me

Luckily in A-school (Tech school for others) i finished top of my class and was awarded E1 to E4 but they tried to fukk me on that as well at my new command.

My family actually got in touch with my instructor who lit into my COC and faxed them over my paperwork signed and sealed and they were forced to get my shyt right.

Which is why i dont understand why not go officer and not deal with enlisted bullshyt:dame:

:manny:OCS is extremely competitive. How is a nikka like me, who hasn't held a job in over 4 years and has only a slightly above mediocre GPA, gonna compete with a trilingual Eagle Scout with a dozen glowing letters of recommendation?

Plus, I don't see many benefits in being an officer, with the exception of cushier living conditions and more money (neither are terribly important to me. I'd much rather learn to become proficient at my job).
You have a degree though breh. Did you talk to an Air Force recruiter? Please reconsider going into the Army breh. I'm in the Air Force and I think you should really go see an AF or Navy recruiter. Even if you decide not to go into either one of those branches just go talk to them.

His reasoning for not going gold doesn't make sense. Any job you have you're going to make sure you're 100% proficient at it. As a Officer, you're actually going to be more proficient than anyone else. Hell, I once worked with a retired 3 Star and he knew more about maintenance than the mechanics and I'm not talking about running the program, I'm talking about getting dirty and actually trouble shooting a vehicle.

Uh, I don't know if anyone explained the possibility of OCS, Officer Candidate School, to you? The pay at O-1 is higher than E-4.
