:manny:OCS is extremely competitive.
How is a nikka like me, who hasn't held a job in over 4 years and has only a slightly above mediocre GPA, gonna compete with a trilingual Eagle Scout with a dozen glowing letters of recommendation?

Plus, I don't see many benefits in being an officer, with the exception of cushier living conditions and more money (neither are terribly important to me. I'd much rather learn to become proficient at my job).
You could have tried to get in. If you got denied, then you still could have done plan B, which is your current plan A.
OCS is a school. They will teach you what you need to know.
Benefits of being an officer. Take a look at the monthly pay of O1 and compare it to E4.
Anyway, what's done is done. But in the future, you still have the option to go into OCS. Your college degree is always there for you for your benefit.

Good luck, bruh.

His reasoning for not going gold doesn't make sense. Any job you have you're going to make sure you're 100% proficient at it. As a Officer, you're actually going to be more proficient than anyone else. Hell, I once worked with a retired 3 Star and he knew more about maintenance than the mechanics and I'm not talking about running the program, I'm talking about getting dirty and actually trouble shooting a vehicle.
That depends on the branch. Most officers in the Navy didnt know jack shyt... And honestly, fukk most of them

But in the AF and Army, yeah those officers get down, eat with their own ppl, etc.

I was real cool with the Warrant on my base, he was prior enlisted to. Got his degree and went Warrant

And shyt, they were offering a blue to green, navy enlisted to Army warrant program when i was in. I was considering it as well. You just needed a degree (even if its an associates).

So yeah, his reasoning doesnt make sense at all. Unless he just didnt want to go officer and ive seen that before. Some people didnt want the responsibility or in the navy they didnt want to be no ones secretary which i understand that.

But fukk... You got a degree and didnt go officer ESPECIALLY in the Army? Btw, i hope his job is guaranteed in writing because from my understanding, the Army can really put you anywhere. Being a blackhawk mechanic sounds pretty exclusive though, but just like you got to go to school for that shyt they wouldve sent him to school for whatever officer gig he applied for. OCS isnt the only way to become officer and you still end up getting more pay and access to training then enlisted

I went to MEPs (military processing) today. Went through some nonsense but still made it through and signed the contract. My mos (job) is 15T- Blackhawk helicopter mechanic. I come in as an E4 because of my college degree, and I ship out in precisely one month.

Honestly should have went in as an officer. That E4 doesn't mean shyt. That E5 doesn't mean shyt and that's at the very least 1.5 years in the future. Questionable MOS too...but I'm sure what everyone else said, use that to your absolute advantage. STACK BREAD.

But yeah, he still got time.

It is easy to make rank in Army though, just need to put your time and hit your bench marks from my understanding

If you decide to make it a career definitely hit E6 and put in that officer package.

It looks better being prior enlisted anyway (at least it did in the navy)

But im not sure how it is in the Army. And prior enlisted could only go so high in certain branches.

But regardless, do your 4 years and apply for some GOV jobs. Im sure helo mechanics get paid on the outside

Armed services is what you make out of it. Yeah you probably shoulda went as a officer simply for the moneys sake but I see your point about technical proficiency (as most Commissioned Officers are not technical experts outside of specialty fields such as STEM, aviation, medical). However i gotta question your choice of rotary wing mechanic as I cant imagine theres alotta demand for those in the civilian world.

But fukk it im sure there's possibilities.

And for the future put in a OCS and a Warrant officer packet when you hit your 5 years. Especially look at Warrant since those guys ARE subject matter experts and because of that, no one bothers them as much as enlisted or commissioned personnel.

Its not.:mjlol: He's a soldier/rifleman first

He will get the training, some experience and the MOS on his DD214 and ATTRS transcript.

However, there's something called "The Needs of the Army" If the Army needs this E4 to pour 250 gallons of human waste into a hole in the the middle of nowhere in Afghanistan and burn it with diesel everyday for a year and pull tower duty with no AC, guess what he's going to be doing?

Officers ain't doing that shyt:dame: We just gonna look at you making the :scust::mjcry:face after you :salute:us.

Then we're going to bust out with the:whew::lolbron::mjlol::russ: when you're not looking.

I'm not in the military but have friends who are or were.
Officer pay is so much better. I guess dude is young and doesn't have major debt, which is good. I have a friend who went to West Point and all and he's a major now. Even an E-9 with 18+ years cannot match his pay.

@Madrasas

word of advice, use the military to your advantage and don't hang with dumbasses.

truth be told, the army really is a great organization and their is plenty of opportunties to do anything you want really.

finally, don't listen to the 99% of these dumbasses in here; they have no clue what they are talking about.

See, this is exactly what i thought.

My navy recruiter told me this when i was talking to both. I was gonna go army because they were talking about how much more money they make/spend then went to the Navy guy and he was like :mjlol:

Like i said, i hope he has it guaranteed in his contract. Army is ok but idk... I would probably go Marines before Army honestly

Marines typically have the worst quality of life. I have a friend that's working(private contractor) with a Marine Unit aboard and they purposely made life hard for the entire camp just to "be tough" With all things, its what you make of it but you have to set yourself up for future opportunities with the job that you pick. I would recommend a person going to the army pick, signal, medical or air operations.

If you about that life then go Infantry, Ranger(make sure you get into a Ranger Battalion) then SF in that order.

My brother was a marine, i know what they go through.

But according to him, their much better trained especially when going out to middle east/over seas.

Thats the only reason i say MAYBE them first. If i knew i was going overseas like that i want the best training possible.

Plus they get to ride ships and shyt as well. All they do is workout when on it

I would probably be intel or anything to do with air squadrons. Either way it would be comms.

Army quality of life isnt that much better... But there are more black people in the Army and more females than in marines so idk:ehh:
