OK, so what determines a first-week flop...anything less than 100K?

Flopping is selling less than expected. Like a movie, if you have a 250 million dollar budget, doing 240 million is a flop. With a 2 million dollar budget, 6 million is a success.

Almost the same with music, it's about your capacity and what people expect from you based on your capacity.

depends on the artist's popularity. for eg- jay rock or joey badass selling 100k would be fukking huge but if drake sells 100k it will be considered as a flop.

Sometimes I think people would find it more enjoyable to look at a book full of numbers on some Rain Man shyt than actually listening to music they enjoy.

May god bless you, my hoodwinked autistic children.

To many it would depend on a number of individual circumstantial factors.

In my opinion though people should always not allow themselves to be judged by society's standards, what matters as an artist is what YOU are satisfied and content with, some artists would be delighted to sell 50 thousand records if you came from nowhere with no-one hearing your shyt. Don't let society define you, define yourself and judge based on YOUR perception of success, this can greatly differ depending on individuals. But artists don't get caught up in that shyt, make your art, sell as much as you can but don't make anybody make you feel bad cause you're not platinum first week, especially in this era, that doesn't mostly translate into lesser or greater quality music/art anyway. So just do your absolute best and in many ways that's success in itself, to do something you love to the best of your ability and have people hearing your music, expressing yourself and making money off it. Set your own expectations and goals but keep going forward after you reach them or keep striving till you do.

It depends on the expectations, previous album sales, and the current state of the music industry.

If I was a rapper I would be happy to sell 10k first week that's like 10k in my pocket. These rappers are so money hungry and greedy they're not pleased unless they sell 100k even though they'll spend it all at the strip club and Lease a Bentley

leasing a bentley is still better than walking like u.

The flop depends on the artist's level of popularity. A Kanye flop is someone like Krit's breakout album. But also the Coli likes to move goal posts on artists they like/don't like. TPAB was a flop but never seen the word attached to WATTBA :comeon:

Also singles and promotion matter for 95 % of artists. The biggest rapper in the game still takes the traditional route of promo and it pays its dividends.
