Not discounting any of your analysis, but for small-market teams, 1st-round playoffs purgatory is a huge win.The team is built like a contending team in the early/mid 2000’s.
Ferguson is just another guy, I won’t call him trash yet but he aids none of the team’s problems. Flipping Melo for Schroeder was nice but he can’t shoot worth a shyt either. The most reliable shooters outside of PG are Abrines and Patterson and they’re role players that can’t really create their own shot and don’t shoot near the same percentage from deep as the elite shooters in the game.
To be a team that is an actual contender for a title in today’s NBA your 2nd option really needs to be a 1st option (KD, Curry) (Harden, CP3) (Kyrie, Tatum?). You’re absolutely right, Paul George is closer to a great 3rd option (Klay) if you’re serious about winning. He’s streaky, turns the ball over a lot with his lackadaisical handles, and does a lot of disappearing acts.
This team as currently constructed is stuck in 1st round playoffs purgatory.
They'll be able to pack the arena for every home game and reap the benefits of at least 2 extra games with sky-high ticket prices.
I wish every franchise owner was really looking to win...but for a lot of them, they really couldn't care less so long as the business side remains solid.
They just want to avoid sinking to Orlando/Sac/Atlanta/Detroit levels of losing. Because in small markets, once that death spiral starts...those season tickets don't move like they used to.
