shyt trying to turn us all vegetarian man![]()
I liked it, i didn't love it. It's probably his worst movie, but when you're a gawd like Ho, that's not always such a bad thing.
Jake Gyleenhaal was absolutely ridiculous in this , i still don't know how I feel about his performance
I do agree with one review I posted that said it never quite matches those first 45 min again and drags in the middle, but those last 15 min or so did get me in my feels a bit.
I'm ready to go vegetarian
I always get confused with asian names. Like when the back of Yao Mings jersey said YaoFelt kinda the same, it is basically three movies in one and the middle third of the movie ain't all that. Bong (that's his last name, not Ho lol, in fact Ho doesn't even make sense because Joon-ho is his first name) however is an excellent director and I don't think this movie would've even worked without him on the helm. He ups the satire of Snowpiercer tenfold with ridiculous results (besides Gyllenhaal's hilarious performance I also gotta mention the ALF member who almost dies from not eating because "all food is exploitative") but still makes most of the dramatic moments count. He also understands how easily a person might not accept a fully CGI-animated creature and spends a good 10 minutes on scenes of people (mostly the girl) interacting with CGI Okja in every single way possible. It almost feels like showing off but you can feel it isn't and that is really just dedication to making Okja feel real.
So they gave it a 4 min standing ovation when it was over, despite the inital boos
