3 years.... Especially if he can't beat Texas or Oklahoma State.

my only concern with Riley are the fringe recruits. Guys like a Samaje Perine, Eric Striker, or Baker Mayfield(transfer) who came to the school primarily b/c of Bob and his reputation. The high school coaches who recommend OU to their players b/c of Bob Stoops.

a Sterling Shepard who came to OU primarily b/c of Bob's relationship, when he could've played anywhere else.

We always have those type of guys.

We'll have an answer fairly shortly as how recruiting will go leading into the start of the season. Bill Bedenbaugh and Cale Gundy are the two biggest recruiters we have, so the OL and offense in general should be fine.... I'm going to assume Cale Gundy will be our new OC. I hope this works our better than Josh Heupel because this is a big gamble, but one we have to take because because there isn't anyone left to hire (of quality). I'm actually nervous about OU offensively going forward.

Defensively, it's not terrible, but it could be better. Anything attached to Mike Stoops will be shytted on by recruits and programs that neg recruit against us, so his and Tim Kish's exit is welcomed. We need A DC and a LB coach that can get rid of the stigma that you cannot slow down the passing attacks in the Big XII... because history OU has done it. OU wouldn't be a top 5 CFB program if they didn't.

I'm also nervous about the national recruiting pipelines, in general and specifically in California that Bob set up. I'm sure USC is dying to get those players back.

Exactly. And we always get those "guys". The guys who may not be highly recruited or are overlooked, and their high school coaches suggest they go to OU and play for Stoops. The Eric Strikers, the Charles Tappers, Charles Walkers, etc.

From a fan perspective, it's very concerning b/c Lincoln Riley is a straight up offensive dude. His logic is likely to outscore rather than to defend...although coaching next to Mike Stoops that was a necessity, lol. But I hope he's learned some sort of defensive mindset and is willing to adjust.

The only reaosn I think Mike Stoops is still around is bc it'd be a complete overhaul shock to the defensive recruits if he left right now. So he'll stay around this year.

But hey, maybe he'll coach his ass off to make himself look more appealing for a new job next yr

Seems fishy but then again maybe he was just tired of the grind and wants to spend time with his family. At least that is what I hope it is and not something worse like some on this board seem to want to be the case.

Yup! This is ideal.

and I think Mike could end up coaching with Mark in Kentucky. Unless he gets a HC offer he can't refuse, he won't be a HC again.
