because baseball old timers are ruining baseball.

dudes get upset over my boy puig celebrated a triple by dancing after hitting a ball..

people today want to see players be outside the norm of the game like a bonds or ricky henderson who use to be smooth when he hit the ball or run the bases.

Baseball needs work but they are like the last sport now behind nfl, nba and even hockey especially hockey playoffs

Your boy Puig could've had an inside-the-park hr, he acts a damn fool and it has little to do with people wanting him to play like a robot, and more to do with his decision making not costing the team.

Back to the subject, FOX was the highest rated network, and ratings were up from last year.

According to very approximate preliminary numbers from Nielsen, which are not adjusted for time zones, the game drew an average of about 13.7 million viewers in prime time, up 25% from last year's early Game One numbers. In the advertiser-desired 18-49 age demographic, the game appears to be up 28%. Compared with last year's final numbers, which increased, the game was up about 12% in total viewership and 14% in the demo.

average NFL games are over 3 hours and have less action than MLB games.
I hate when people say that shyt. NFL can be a bore with all the fukking stoppages and commercial breaks. Plus you can't even see all the 1 v 1 matchups on the outside. Baseball is special because a pitcher vs a hitter is as personal as it gets. And baseball fans who are serious are copping mlb.tv to watch Kershaw/King Felix pitch and watch Mike Trout/Puig.

this entire "local" argument :heh: do they revenue share? im ignorant when it comes to baaaaaaseball educate me on it oh mighy baseball oracles

● Every team in the majors pays in 31% of their net local revenue, and then that money is divided up and equally distributed to every team. Since large-market teams will have much greater local revenues than small market teams, this already puts small market teams in the black.

● On top of this, a large chunk of MLB’s central fund (which are acquired through things like national broadcasts) is set aside to be allocated to teams based on their revenues.

● By 2016, the fifteen teams in the largest markets in baseball will be disqualified from receiving revenue sharing. This feature is being phased in over the coming years. The disqualified clubs will receive a refund for the amount that they would have received in revenue sharing, although teams that have exceeded the Luxury Tax threshold in recent years will not receive a full refund. baseball is probably stronger than its been since the 70s.

its not about not being cool, its about the sport being completely local.
That's kinda why I said in the NLCS thread baseball needed the dodgers in the WS. That would've at least made it intriguing

For what it's worth, not too much has changed in baseball in the last 75 years... that "old timers ruining it for everybody" shyt is vastly over exaggerated.

it's not like there is some truly visible difference in how the game is played, and it's players from 1955, to now.

what's really killing them, is that baseball isn't really appealing to the casual fan like basketball and football are, coupled with the fact that football and basketball are the primary ( if not only) of the big 4 sports chosen to play in urban areas.

baseball numbers would be on par with the NFL and NBA, if it attracted the demographic that doesn't really follow sports, but tunes in/attends cause of the social atmosphere it has.
Baseball doesn't lend it self to people who just want to tune in. You have to actually follow the sport to enjoy watching it.

Speed the fukking game up. It's tooooo slow. Too many times I'm watching batters perform turret syndrome like rituals each and every time they step in the batters box, in-between every pitch. Some of these batters take a fukking stroll after every pitch. Each pitcher has to walk off the mound every pitch, look at the outfield to spot their fam, adjust their caps, lick their fingers, and all other types of shyt.

It's just too fukking long. Use a 24 second pitch clock. If the pitchers can't get ready by the time 24 seconds tick off, it's an automatic ball. If it's the batters fault automatic strike.

Speed it up, make it exciting. Put pressure on these guys.

I just don't think baseball resonates well with the under 40 demographic. Football is loved by everyone, Basketball dominates the under 40 demographic and is loved by non-racist old-heads, Baseball is loved by the over 45 white demographic. Baseball is gonna eventually have to do something to market itself to the youth and urban demographic because right now, shyt just isn't working and they may want to do something soon before those old-heads die out and they're left with nothing. Also worth noting, the NFL is worldwide, the NBA is worldwide, MLB is solely an American sport as far as viewership.

Nobody can fukking make contact anymore. It's tough watching these fakkits flail away. I like pitching duels but when you have John Lackey in the World Series making people look stupid.. something is wrong. MLB has done a horrible job at marketing their stars too. Casual fans don't know shyt about Trout or Goldschimdt or whoever.

It's a long ways from Griffey, Thomas, Bonds etc.

MLB still my favorite sport. World Series is as good as it gets, especially tonight when the game only takes three hours.

And as previously mentiomed , game one got 13mil viewers and kicked the other networks' asses. Still far from perfect, but lol at the notion that baseball is dying.
