They didn't put handcuffs on him. There's a good chance nothing happens tbh, he's American and a lawyer and professor so more likely than not has money. If he can give some money to the right people there's a good chance he gets off free.

Ehh. Maybe if this happened in some small village or to one of the natives, he'd get away with it. It's way too high profile.

These protests are a huge deal in Panama and both leftists and nationalists are against that mine contract being protested.
