It’s a long story, but if anything, he was just suspicious of Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis “stealing” and “sharing” his sound.

One of my favorite P stories is that he drove by Jimmy Jam’s momma’s house while Jimmy was there, and threw Janet’s ‘Control’ album out the window at him. :dead:

A number of acts copied the Minneapolis Sound



They're from Flint. The Minneapolis sound was pretty much the sound of the upper Midwest. Detroit was the first area outside of Minneapolis to embrace Prince because DJ Mojo was always putting Detroit unto diverse sounds. That's why Prince said Detroit was like a second home to him, and he was always indebted to the D for that.
