Marcus Dupree would have been the greatest OU RB of all time. He had a Jim Brown build but had downhill speed for his size like Adrian Peterson... Hard to catch or bring down in the open field... He let his mental instability and behavior ruin a dynasty and his legacy. Barry Switzer would have had him ready for the pros. I guess you can say he didn't have the hunger. Watch 30 for 30 with this highlight film....

I was born in 82, so I wasn't old enough to remember but his story is a bittersweet legend that frequently gets told.

Barry Switzer shyt on him, for only running for 249 yards in a loss...cause if he was in shape, he would've ran for 400 yards

:russ: @ the level you'd have to play football at, where only running for 250 is flat out unacceptable.

Yup... He didn't have to s**t on him like that but it was painfully clear that he didn't have the hunger to make it in the NFL.... As evidenced by the posters s**tting on route to the NFL and his short NFL career. Symptoms of a bigger problem. Bo Jackson was my dude but he would have been a smaller note in football history if Dupree would have stayed and not let his b***h-made personality get the best of him.

I watched Dupree play, he was never gonna be anything in the NFL. Back in those days, you couldn't be as physically frail as some of these guys are now. He had impressive physical gifts, but he lacked aside from durability, he did not have great football IQ, imo. The talent gap from college to NFL was a lot wider than it was. Furthermore he had weight issues that would hinder him in the NFL level. Even with todays surgery techniques, he would have had a 3 year career at best. A lot of the better NFL players in that are were middle of the road players in college or were stars from small schools.

I feel the same way about Hirschel Walker as a pro.

If anything it speaks to how special Adrian Peterson and Eric dikkerson are.to have superior size, speed, the smarts and the durability they had.

I would compare Dupree to a faster Brandon Jacobs

He didnt have great football iq?

:what:

HOW? Dude sizes things up perfectly as a runner. He set defenders up slowing down and making a lil wiggle to free himself. I saw nothing that says "poor football iq."

WHERE?

Yes and no, he has some skill as well as his physical gifts but he was so far ahead of most of his competition. Maybe poor was an overstatement, but the NFL especially in the early to mid-80s was a whole different beast from the college to pro game, I suppose the sample size wasn't really large enough in the grand scheme of things but based on having watched years of NFL football by the mid 80's even if completely healthy I don't know if he had the makeup to make a real career for himself be it lack of drive or just resting on his laurels, I just don't think he had the makeup to succeed at the top level.
