This. My parents created a monster by copping every game my brothers and i wanted plus there were 5 of us all a year apart so between birthdays and Christmas that 10 games a year off top. Not including pops going out and copping shyt for himself like the og doom but he would lace us with day one release games too. Like when Mortal Kombat dropped.:wow:

Not too many parents were allowing their kids to play that game considering it was bloody and you know the controversy that came with that game at the time. Bless my old man for giving a lil nikka the world:mjcry:

Phantasy Star 4 was 100$ i believe too
I have a bunch of crazy childhood Mortal Kombat stories. I think my first time playing Mortal Kombat on a console/handheld was when I played it for game gear. One X-mas my family took the train to Newark, NJ to visit my Grandma. Swear to God, there was a kid on the train who also had the game, and who also had the gamelink where we could play each other :gladbron:. My mother forced us to put the game gear away though, and refused to get it out once I found out the kid had that gamelink :to: Do you know how rare it was back then to meet a kid who had (1) a game gear, (2) mortal kombat and (3) a game link so two people could play :krs:? Mom dukes failed me that day, man.

Another funny/fukked up story:

My god brother that I grew up with was handicapped and couldn't really play videogames, so he would ask me to play them for him and he would watch. Man, one time he and his step father got into it while we were playing Mortal Kombat 2 for SNES. Step father came in the room and yanked the game out the system and sent dude to his room. nikka had that automatic wheel chair too back in the day (he had cerebral palsy). I remember him wheeling himself back to his room, sobbing and shyt like :mjcry::to: I tried to follow him back to his room, but his step father did some crazy ass martial art clothesline (he was a black belt in Taekwondo) and sent me flying into my god brother's glass wheelchair food table :merchant: Mind you, I was probably 9 at the time :mindblown:. nikka instantly knew he fukked up, so he tried to appease me and my brother by giving us a big cup of sprite so we wouldn't snitch :childplease: We didn't either :snoop:

I was an average 19 year old. It's possible you were either rich, or your parents spoiled you.

Did you have it on PC? Did you have a computer, and the internet? Yeah....that doesn't mean it was common.

World Development Indicators - Google Public Data Explorer

20% of the U.S. had internet in 1997. Like I said, not even close to the norm.

24% of the U.S. had a PC in 1994. Again, not the norm:

Granted I grew up kinda poor but I knew literally nobody with a PC in 1994. But then again neither did most of the U.S.

Fred.
Dunno what to tell you. Most people I knew had one. Statistics might say otherwise but PCs weren't extremely rare where I lived. I'm saying 94 but more than likely it was 93. Internet was super super super slow, and I never used it until 95. That AOL cd was definitely disseminated that year. I was definitely up on AOL heavy in 97 (13 year old).

Yeah but I'm saying "not rare where you lived" =/= not rare. I'm not doubting you had all the shyt you said....but it was very uncommon in the years you listed.

You had access to something less than 1/5 of the entire U.S. had at the time. I graduated in '95 and my high school didn't even have the internet.:mjlol:

The sole reason I even knew the internet existed in the mid/late 90's is you could go to the public library and "rent" it for 30-60 minutes if you had a photo ID. I think the first guy I knew with a PC was around '98.

Yo your neighborhood and high school were :flabbynsick: as hell then bc we had Macs in ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. My mother just texted to confirm that we got our first comp in 93. My brother was in 1st grade and used the computer to teach himself how to spell Mavis Beacon. She said she ordered it from Finger Hut. It was a HP.

I'm not sure how big the trading scene was out in other cities, but I always ate well with trades. My allowance was $10 weekly as a younging and traded games often at $5 a pop. If there was a game I was interested in...I saved it. I saved 2 months for Street Fighter 2 turbo on the snes

Rented games a lot back then. Blockbuster was the shyt. Also used to trade games with friends so the neighborhood had a wide circulation of titles, that's how I got introduced to Castlevania, Contra, and Megaman.

My folks rarely bought me games. If I wanted to play something, I'd go over to my friends.

LMAO

There was a Mortal Kombat controversy ???
I mildly remember mortal kombat 3...

Everybody had that game what was the big deal?
The mortal kombat controversy was that it was such a violent and bloody game at the time. The genesis version had blood and the Nintendo version did not. You had to put a code in to get blood on the genesis version.

Like I said I grew up poor. I went to school in the inner city. The Kansas City, Missouri school system was notoriously....eventful, in the 80's and 90's.

Regardless, you had a very good childhood breh. Most people didn't have access to computers in '93.

Dope thread op by the way. My pops and his brothers were into games and still are, those nikkas are pushing 60! Anway it was passed on to me and my brothers and now my son lol. We had all kind of jux and schemes to get more games like Blockbuster, Fingerhut ect.. for blockbuster we would simply pop open the case inside the store lmao! Thats when they still had the game inside the case wow. Or go to Montgomery Ward ask to see a game that was behind a glass case and for some reason the lady working would always walk away, she knew what we were doing lol. Plus u know my first modded system was a PlayStation. I knew a dude who was into that shyt and blessed me.
