I was in High School when it drop. Being from Louisiana, NYC nor the East Coast got any love down there except for Biggie and a few Nas hits. Hardknock life made me pay attention and give NYC artist a listen. I always saw NYC artist like we see foreign rappers. When I saw Jay walking out of the corner store drinking a quarterwater I was like these nikkas are like us.

Hard Knock Life was pure Piff. It was the song "Anything" that didn't hit like HKL, but it was aight tho. Volume 2 took him over to that mainstream market.

Jigga was that dude when this album dropped. HKL was getting heavy MTV play and damn near every track on the album got some type of radio play.
