Old heads....just how powerful was "Hard Knock Life" when it dropped?

It seemed like that album snowballed into what it became. It seems like it started with "Money Ain't A Thang". Then came "It's Alright". "Can I Get A ..." was next and it seemed like it was everywhere. Then he dropped "Hard Knock Life" and that Annie sample threw me off, but the song was huge. Somewhere in between, there was "Money Cash Hoes", and that song was just at the time. When the album came out, I looked at the back and saw the tracklist and felt no real urge to buy it. I'd heard many of the songs already and radio wore out their welcome. I still rocked with "nikka What, nikka Who" though once it was released as a single. I didn't cop the retail until years later. That was still a great run of singles from one album though .

I heard Kriss Kross Young Rich & Dangerous get more play

its an independent street album. im not saying the whole country was up on it, but it was understood. sorta like master p. ice cream man got no play up here until Ghetto D. but its understood where he was on his way to.

i think people downplay reasonable doubt in hindsight because its jay's camel ass. but people will downplay reasonable doubt and then hoist up lesser albums in the same sentence.

They are more than just bonus songs though. If it's because they were on other projects before, then much of the album is a bonus song. There's a few soundtrack singles that appear on the album that aren't bonus songs.

It was the first time he WAS that nikka...any account before this and money aint a thing saying that he was the man (reasonable doubt dvd bullshyt for example) is straight lies. This was the hottest song out until hate me now dropped.

Actually this is a lie. It was actually "The City is Mine" when jay really became "that guy". As I recall when the city is mine dropped he was letting everybody know he's the heir to the kony after BIG died. Also The Streets is Watching vhs was heavy in the streets. This was all before that annie song. That sunshine song was corny but once that hard knock life track came out it was over.
