Yep.

I'll add Smoothe The Hustler, O.G.C., Jeru, Ghostface, Poor Righteous Teachers, M.O.P., Nine, Ras Kass, Bush Babees, The Fugees, Keith Murray, Shyheim, Xzibit, and Al-Tariq to that list of albums I copped or bumped that year.

I was still in high school, but I do remember that Pac song getting plenty of video play. But '96 was a smorgasbord of dope shyt to choose from just about every other week, so a crossover radio song wasn't really on our radar like that in my circle.

Nice additions. Very nice actually :obama:. Ironman was actually a crew favorite. But yeah there was just too much piff that year. Everybody was on their A game.

I like how people keep ignoring the cold hard fact this song went to number 1 on the Billboard charts lol. But they claim no one was checking for it that makes no sense.

1. "How Do U Want It/California Love"
2Pac feat. K-Ci & JoJo
Peak Position: 1 (eight weeks)
Peak Date: 6/22/96

"How do you want it's" chart position in Billboard is based on the fact that it charted in combination with California Love. Anyone who was old enough to remember knows that California Love was the bigger of the 2 songs...:what:

It had the same appeal as an LL cool J song. It crossed over into the female market. 90s brehettes weren't listening to rap the same way women do now. Back then there was this little genre called RnB and they usually gravitated towards that.

And don't forget tupac had a strong caccette fanbase as well.

That scene is cringeworthy but pretty accurate.

It was a hot track on the radio I know that. I remember my dad loved the song. He bought the single tape.

I was 9 when it dropped. 97.9 Detroit "Where hiphop lives"

Please do
Ok I get it - point taken

But De La was pre G Funk hip hop

I guess I was too pro East to even see it at the time - that East Coast rap incorporated G Funk... never considered myself pro East though ...and still prefer that aggressive spitting to the laid back chill flow

I was 13 and my breh and me used to bump this when girls were at his pool parties throughout that summer. The girls would always dance on us in our swimsuits in or out the pool so I have fond memories of this song lol
