so these are the highlights of Auburn vs. Alabama aka Okoro vs. Kira. The two schools are rivals so there is passion in both games. The first game was a great Kira game where they got The win, the second was a great game from Okoro where the goal was to shut Kira down offensively (which isn’t shown but they do it) plus he has some top tier drives to the basket. These are only highlights but still worth the watch.
These would basically be ceiling games for both.
In the first video Kira is orchestrating the offense, driving to the basket, hitting open 3s, passing amazing in transition, feeding bigs in PnR and basically having his way with the defense. He looks like a all around PG who can do it all. Defensively he pesters the opposing PG and plays passing lanes.
In the second video (and parts of the first) we see Okoro playing great defense, driving when he has a open lane, rebounding, driving and passing. He looks like he would be an amazing “Pippen” where he would get his points by reading the defense and taking what is giving to him. This is a highlight video so we only see the good shots, but his 3 doesn’t appear broken and he actually does a sidestep 3 to get around a defender. There are a few drives in these videos where you can see he would be a problem to stop in the league.
Kira Ceiling comparisons - Tony Parker who wasn’t on the spurs
Kira Reliable comparison - Skinny Raymond Felton
Kira can be instant offense due to to being great pick and roll ball handler. Definitely a quick and agile PG. he looks like underrated pace-controlling playmaker and can shoot but lack of reliable defense and consistent performances is a red flag. He has a good number of “bad games”. He also gets bodied by taller defenders. For example Tyrese Halliburton who is 6’5 did a clinic on him, shut him down offensively and then scored 20+ points on him. I do think he is a stretch as the pick at 8. He we moved to the #12- #15 range he would be a steal. Due to the question can he get significantly better? With that said Kira’s top straight-line speed would be a problem for team having to also try and contain RJ and Mitch PnRs at the same time. On the Knicks he seems Primed to have good and bad games and he will get lit up by opposing PG’s until he get stronger. In his prime he would be a consistent weapon on offense that teams wouldn’t be able to ignore. Similar to Tony Parker, but without arguably a top 25 SG and best PF ever to do work besides him.
Okoro Ceiling Comparison - More defense oriented Jaylen Brown
Okoro reliable comparison - Smarter Lance Stephenson/Justise Winslow
Okoro is a physical player, offensively and defensively. Offensively I think he has potential to improvise and is definitely capable of creating points for himself. He has great BBIQ and the shots he "creates" are not bad shots. He has the self-awareness to score within the offense. His passing is underrated and at a minimum I could see him being Born Ready 2.0 but smarter, and more accepting (and capable) of the 6th man role. The ceiling for Okoro is another issue. I think he could be one of those players (like Jaylen Brown) who adds to his game every offseason. Nothing in his game seems broken, he just needs to master all the skills. His scoring is low, but I think he could get it into the 20pt range, but around 15 points a game seems more likely. Watching a few of his college drives, it’s easy to recognize nobody would be able to stop him from scoring those points on the NBA. He has speed, strength, can eurostep. If he get a outside shot and focuses on scoring he will be an all-star sooner than later. Realistically would need at least one other high level player, maybe even two too really shine.
