Needs to get his FT% up much higher in the 75-80% range and I might believe. If that happens in the future, that'd be a step in the right direction, because free throw shooting is usually a good indicator of shooting. Shooting under 60% is unacceptable on any level.
If Deandre Jordan can do it then so can RJ

Even Giannis is starting to hit 3s and that is from only one off season of really focusing on it
(still should be a better ft shooter though)

I don't doubt this kid's work ethic

Now if he is shytting the bed from the ft line in year 3 or 4 then then we have a problem (below 60%)

Not everyone agrees but I think RJ has a very high ceiling

The only thing that will hold him back is his shooting

That win tonight was ugly. Wizards were missing everyone but still went on scoring runs (but that also had to do with the bigs getting in foul trouble), and somehow the worst defense in the league forced 21 turnovers. There were long stretches where the Knicks couldn't find their open man and had to settle for contested 1-on-1 opportunities or ISO ball. Randle, Portis, Morris, Barrett, Knox, these are all ball-stoppers who are going to take any decent look they get. I didn't see really anything impressive from the Knicks tonight (besides Mitch being a straight menace).

Randle numbers are impressive, but he's taking so many shots doing it. Even though like any rookie Barrett can improve with his decision making, I don't blame the kid

Imagine playing with Portis, Morris, Payton, and Randle who all actively waive off RJ any chance they get

Especially when he has a hot quarter or 1st half

Of course he is going to want to be aggressive as soon as he gets the ball because he doesn't know when he will get it back

Remember he is a ball dominant player not a stand in the corner for 3 guy

He'll figure it out

Barrett looked decent, I remember tonight he was openly cutting to the basket and all Portis had to do was throw an overhead pass but opted for some floater instead

There is so much dysfunction on this team

Been enjoying the Christmas break so I haven't gotten to sit down and really go in on recent performances but a few observations from last night...

- Randle's been playing well lately. He's still the flawed player that he always was but he's been a bit wiser, the jumper has fallen more (shots coming closer to the bucket) and has been putting up numbers. If nothing else, he's playing his value back up.

- The zone defense continues to be tough for the Knicks to address with so few shooters on the roster. Frank and Portis broke it at times with a two man game but Portis isn't consistent enough to pull that off every time, let alone against a better squad than the Wizards second and third stringers.

- Mitch with foul trouble again but his impact was obvious in the fourth quarter. The Knicks really need to either acquire someone that blocks shots to cover when Mitch isn't on the floor or they need to make space and call-up Wooten to get a shot at being that guy...haven't watched the G-League, anyone know how Rabb is looking?

- Knox is probably second only to Randle in showing the most signs of improvement since Miller took the reins. He didn't blow up the box score last night, but he drew a ton of fouls on dribble penetration that didn't show up as stats and his defense has show marked improvement. Don't get that last bit twisted, he's gone from terrible to giving solid effort but it's trending in the right direction.

- Frank also drew a lot of fouls off the dribble. He was really in attack mode and I thought it was interesting that Miller had him take the technical FT in the first half. It seemed like recognition and encouragement of Frank's aggression. He had some nice assists and made some really great passes that weren't converted as well (he made one pass from close to halfcourt that found Portis cutting in the paint which was just fantastic).

- It's dope that even on a bad night, Elfrid Payton added 8 assists. Some of the TO's he had were head scratchers and he has to score to keep defenses honest, but his table setting has been as advertised.

- RJ still struggling on efficiency but 3/5 from three with a big one in the clutch is great to see. He pressed a bit though, missed some open guys while driving into big men.

- Not too much to make of a game like this one. They did what they're supposed to. The young guys made real contributions which is nice, especially because a few vets came up short. The squad is rounding into the form I expected from them, good enough to beat bad teams but not there yet to do much more. I don't mind that though as long as RJ, Mitch, Frank and Knox are making contributions and showing good signs.

Randle may be figuring it out

But he's putting up stats against bad teams on a bad team these last few games

Let's see how he does against the better teams they will be facing in this upcoming stretch

Will he continue to improve or revert back to Randle Handle?

He is also shooting 37% from 3 his last 10 games

His trade value is going to skyrocket if he keeps this up
