Quick cap:
- Randle had his best game since the break and it's hard not to wonder what his upside would be with improved defensive effort and overall IQ when you watch him steamroll Rudy Gobert for points all night. The problem is that defensive ineptitude really took the teeth out of some of the scoring...which is sorta what always happens. It's Kanteresque right down to the rebounding.

- Payton also played really well but on the backdrop of Mike Conley looking like he was a Grizzly again.

- And those two thriving took away touches from RJ Barrett. RJ was good too. 14 points, 5 assists and 4 boards while he was one made shot away from 50% from the field. After Houston, I wanted to see him get the reins but we're still watching the offense run through others. Last night, it was RJ's dimes that really stood out to me. He made some really nice reads and passes across the touches he did get. It feels like the game is slowing down for him when he's posting some one up and whips a pass over his shoulder to an open cutter for an easy lay-up.

- Bobby Portis has his one hot quarter in the second instead of the fourth this time. That's not a knock on him, he's been good lately, but his scoring is just really streaky. Not having Mitch to cover for him also made some glaring defensive mishaps stand out. He watched dudes lay the ball up instead of rotating to challenge on multiple occasions.

- Frank had a strong first half but mainly just fed the hot hand of Portis. Nothing wrong with that. It's the second half when he continued the swing pass mindset that was annoying. He still showed flashes on offense though with a nice elbow jumper and drive to a dunk. His ball handling is clearly much improved. Also, defensively the kid was a stud on a night no one else played much D. He forced a chunk of TO's that don't tally as steals. In the fourth at one point he drew an offensive foul than forced a travel in transition defense in what felt like back to back possessions. So a bit disappointing offensively but with signs to like and a really nice defensive game.

- Knox tried a lot of different things and I liked that he mixing up his attempts to get going but he shifted into pressing mode. The 1/5 doesn't bother me nearly as much as the 3 TO's. I thought his attempts from the field were decent to good looks but when the looks weren't there, he'd force the issue and turn it over instead of moving the ball. He's young and wants to produce, so I understand. But "trying everything" needs to start including trying to create for others, he's shown a decent ability to do that when he's mindful of it (especially with Mitch).

- I get why Ellington got a long look. He's been hot. I get why Bullock got a chunk of change because he's been solid. But 25 mins for Ellington and 20 for Bullock in a blowout at this juncture looks a bit funny next to Trier and Dot DNP, Knox and Frank 20 minutes. Those vet wings are better players but if they're not making big impacts after 15 minutes then I want to see the young guys get opportunities. Especially when we're being beaten soundly.

- Taj and Mo were not very good, but they've been solid up to this point and I like them so I'm not gonna swing on their struggles. If they string bad ones together, I'll speak on it but for now I'm hanging on to my bias.

- Now that we're done with that basketball stuff, I'd like to suggest Steve Stout set up a red carpet entrance into the Garden to make up for the Spike drama. Except instead of letting celebrities use it, they should have season ticket holders, Garden of dreams kids and some contest winners or something enter through it. It'd be both spiteful and impossible to criticize; turn a negative to a positive.
