I was watching RJ interview with SVP last night about "The last dance", and one of the things RJ took from watching it was that MJ alone changed his teams culture by his actions. For some reason it impressed me that a second year player would take that away. Not the highlights and the killer mentality, but the deeper take.

refreshing to see someone in our front office sign proven executives with a track record of success, and not someone just hiring their pals.

Ive been sayin for the longest time, there's no reason why the knicks shouldn't have the best of everything when it comes to coaching, training and front office. dolan has the money and is willing to spend it. he just makes shytty hiring decisions.

hopefully he got it right with rose

RJ Hampton is an intriguing prospect for sure. I wouldn't pick him at 6, but if we were at 9 or 10 and the draft board fell a certain way (Haliburton and Killian gone) then he could be in the conversation. That said he's more in the mold of tweener than "guy I want running my offense" so far. He's got a ton of promise though and I have a lot of interest in what an offense might look like where three different players can attack as both scorer or playmaker (it's why I'm high on Deni as a good option).

The other thing about Hampton is if the rumor's true, I think the "trade for vet PG" stuff gains more legs. RJ's not running an offense right now and playmaking has been mentioned as a point of focus. I'd be looking at the Rozier and CP3 rumor fronts more closely if names like Hampton and Deni start to gain traction over the Hayes and Haliburtons of the world.

On that Mac clip, I'm less concerned with Dolan being a good guy and more happy to hear someone say that he has guys looking at near max second contracts who really do want to play for the Knicks. It feeds into the whole "chasing a savior" narrative, but it's still nice to see someone counter the idea that no one wants to play for the Knicks.
First off,

Hope all of my Knicks brehs have been safe and healthy - mentally especially.

I've been kind of unmotivated lately and haven't really been following too much. But I'm back.

Secondly, would y'all trade Knox for the 11th pick if RJ Hampton is still on the board?

Glad to see you back in the game fam! I feel you on the motivation tip, honestly the Last Dance and some of these FO hirings have helped get me re-energized a bit.

For trading Knox for 11, I think I'd hold on making a definite choice until I see who we bring in to coach. If it's a Thibs or a JVG, I'm probably diving on the chance to switch Knox for an 11th pick that fits those guys' philosophies more. If it were a more development type like Atkinson, I'd hang on to Knox because I do think the tools and work ethic are there for him to develop under the right circumstances.

The pick range that I'm eye'ing is 15-20, but rather than RJ Hampton, I've got a mind for Kira Lewis. Hampton would be a great fallback option if he slid and I'm fairly confident that if all else fails, Theo Maledon should be available in that range. I also think there's a chance to package our picks or help a cash strapped team out in exchange for that 15+ range without losing Knox.

I'm imagining a pump fake like the Zion draft. We win make the move up...to 4th or 3rd in a draft where the closest to sure things talent-wise are at one and two.

Last year hurt more because it was Zion

Neither Lamelo or Edwards is anything close to a franchise changing player even if there a clear cut 1 and 2

Which is why I think the Knicks will win it in a year where there is nobody who is gonna make a huge difference in your franchise

It definitely feels good to see his first two hires being guys that aren't big names but have strong reputations and clear specialties. Aller comes in and you've got a cap expert; Perrin comes in and now we've got a scouting pro. Rose came in green but he's at least pulled in a lot of experience with those first two hirings. The big choices are still to come and will tell us a lot more (coach, draft picks, free agent targets) but the front office building at least looks good on the surface. That said, Mills hiring Perry looked promising too...so I'm cautious to get excited.

That's stood out to me most and I hope it trickles down to the roster.

A specialized capologist. A specialized scout and player development guy. We have building blocks for defensive specialists in Frank and Mitch. What do we have besides that, in terms of defined skills/specialists? Between fukking around with the GM mode and watching the Last Dance, it really reminded me of the importance of addressing specific skillsets you want and creating a system for it. Our last good year we had legit scorers(Melo, JR, STAT), legit shooting (Novak, Copeland), legit facilitators (Felt, Kidd, Prigi) and a legit defensive anchor (Chandler) along with defensive minded pieces, despite being young or old (Shump, Kidd, Camby, KT) as key rotational guys. Whatever direction we settle on, I really hope these are things they keep in mind.

I flip flop on this a lot but if I'm Rose - Portis, DSJ, Ellington, Bullock, Knox, Payton, Randle and Taj need to go for pennies by any means necessary because none of them do anything particularly well. Get whatever current and future draft assets you can for a DSJ, Randle and Knox and let the rest go. Dot can shoot and play D, Trier can get buckets - if either can be kept long term for cheap, they're valuable, otherwise let them go.

Go all in on LaMelo with whatever assets available.

Have Frank, RJ and Mitch as your core to build around with Melo.

Zero in on Joe Harris, Davis Bertans, Christian Wood and Andre Roberson as free agency targets.

Mitch/Bertans
Wood/Draft Pick
RJ/Harris
Roberson/Dot or Trier
LaMelo/Frank

Good mix of youth, length, offense and defense, score by committee while giving Melo the opportunity to shine as the primary facilitator, have RJ work with Harris and Bertans shooting day and night, have Roberson build Frank up some more, see how this team manages and what options become available tradewise (Mitchell?) or FA (Giannis) and go from there. The foundation is there, the front office seems to be moving in a positive direction and you're in a favorable position despite the Coronavirus because most teams will be sellers right now. Time to take advantage and build a culture.

Zion was a league of his own for sure, but I'll still feel some pain if we move up from 6 but miss on LaMelo and Edwards. I think both of those guys would be like adding a force multiplier to the young core. LaMelo is a playmaker through and through, he'll make everyone look better by sheer style of play and I think his playmaking will translate pretty quickly. I really like Edwards though despite being the bigger question mark fit. I think if you've got Edwards and RJ on the wings with Mitch patrolling inside; you can build a modern bully ball team that's capable of putting up big scores but probably even better suited for physical, grind 'em out fights. The wings are both 20 ppg type talents in that case; you surround 'em with defense and shooting then develop them into a one-two punch for a generation.
